Synch not working

I am running on two windows 7 machines, both on chrome. They are not synched. Chrome is synched, but Todoist is not. How do I enable sync?

Hi Greg,

Please try logging out of Todoist and logging back in again. That normally fixes this issue. Also, please make sure you're signing using the same account. If this doesn't help, please let me know so I can assist you further.

Hi Greg,

Some users inadvertently create new accounts and that's why I wanted you make sure that you're using the same account to log-in.

Can you please try the following?

1.) Try logging out and logging back in on both computers (ignore if you have already done this step)

2.) Clear the cache by going to Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All cookies and site data, search for "todoist" there (there's a search box in the top-right) and delete all Todoist-based entries that you'll see.

Please note that there's no special setup that needs to be done to be able to sync your Todoist task. If it's not working properly, there might be a plug-in or setup that's preventing from doing it so.

Also, make sure that your browser is set to accept 3rd party cookies. Let me know if the tips I mentioned above doesn't help.

My laptop is behind my desktop. It is 32 days ago on todoist. Chrome
bookmarks is not synced and Evernote are not syncing either.

I went to advance settings in Goggle Chrome to clear cookies. I did not see
an option to search todoist cookies. I deleted ALL cookies.

This made it WORSE: now to doist has 10 copies of each project on the
laptop. no change on desktop.

Can we talk on phone?

I fixed chrome sync by updating passwords in chrome. Todoist problems

We do not have phone support at this time.

Please head into Chrome again, and follow the instructions, as removing all under Todoist is very important, as it includes offline data.

Clear the cache by going to Settings (top right 3 lines), Show Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All cookies and site data, search for "todoist" there (there's a search box in the top-right) and delete all Todoist-based entries that you'll see.

Yes, as I don't believe the normal clear all removes offline data. So it would be good to test this out. Though, it may be a long shot.

Also to clarify, do you have the chrome extension installed and the Gmail extension?

I just followed your instructions that I alrwady perfomed on the failed
laptop to see if it fixed the sync and forced the laptop to correct. it
made no difference. SInce my cookies were gone I had to log in using a new
password I had created and now I have the same problem on my desktop as my
laptop. 10_ duplicates of everything and all data is scrambled. THis is now
a HUGE problem!!. can you look at it directly? Do I have a good account
under an old password?

​My desktop was fine until I cleared the cookies and data on the desktop
which forced me to log in with this password. This is a new password that I
just set on the laptop when trying to fix the sync failure. THis new
password is what casued the duiplicates on the laptop, and now has caused
the same on the desktop.

I have been deleting duplicated projects and duplicated tasks one by one
for over two hours. What I am seeing is that many tasks have been
rearranged randomly to other projects, essentially a very jumbled mess. I
think you have a huge problem here. This SUCKS! WHere is the SUPPORT!??

I am very sorry for the trouble you are having. Do you use any of our mobile apps?

We have not experienced this in this extent ever before. Though some cases were caused by the iOS app.

I am trying to read through all your replies, this all started when you added a password and stopped using Google to sign in?

I do not use IOS. Just Windows 7. I do not have a smart phone. I had doist
on chrome as well as windows 7 on desk and laptop.

It all started when after I changed my Google Chrome password.

1) I changed the google password on desktop
2) laptop did not sync chrome or doist with desktop
3) I changed password on laptop chrome and then it synched, but doist on
chrome remained out of date
4) i changed the doist password on the laptop to match chrome password as I
thought that would allow it to sync. it made it worse, causing the
duplicates and the jumble
5) Dsktop doist had no problems until I changed the password to match the
password on laptop. Then it synced with laptop with garbage.


Seriously, your lack of phone support is a problem.

After 6 hours, I am finished deleting and sorting. Worried the problem
will recur. Could I have received a virus through Chrome? Possibly the old
rehashed password was targeted?

I am sorry you are having such a hard time, and feel that the support is not good. Most support does not even answer for days.

That being said, I have been trying to reproduce the issue on my end, and have been reading your replies. I have yet been successful in doing so. As I said before, something like this has never happened before, and a password reset should not have any effect on data. It could be something to do with your system and a virus of sorts, but everything our system runs on and uses is encrypted, so its not possible.

Duplication tends to be false information. I am worried now that you have tried to manually remove all this, that real information might have been removed. Though, removing all the cache from each system, signing out and back in should have resolved this issue if it is false information.

I have passed this along to the developers but at the moment we do not have an idea as to what could have caused this or if another password change will cause it again. We hope to find something soon.

Good to know that there were no data lost. This is the first time we've seen this badly in the web. We've passed the details along to our developer to check what could have caused this. Until we hear from them, it would be difficult to determine what has caused.

I am guessing it was a virus to do with security on Chrome related to gmail
password breach and your gmail extension? Gmail and Yahoo had passwords
stolen 6 mths ago and I changed my password 1 month ago when Google advised
all to do so. the stolen passwords were encrypted and no breaches reported,
so maybe not. I did revert back to this old password as I was trying to
make todoist synch on chrome. The duplicates appeared after that, but sync
failed before that.

I also experienced sync problem with Evernote which has yet to be resolved,
but no data damages there.

If possible, reproduce the problem, click the Sync button, then follow

1. Open Evernote for Windows; select *Help > Activity Log…*
2. Select *Save As… > Desktop > Save*
3. Reply to this email and attach the saved log file

Without clear ways to reproduce this, at least not being able to do so, its hard to find what the cause was. If it does happen again, which we believe it will not as it is rare to begin with, please try to keep track of exactly what happened when it does.

You detailed that you changed your password, though in testing this does not cause any issues. When is say details, it could be anything, from deleting a project, task...or a new plugin or extension. Which is why I was saying to try to see if it would happen again. Exact steps up to the issue is what would be most useful, but not always possible.

So for example.

You signed in with your account, checked off three tasks in a shared project, then went back to then Inbox and it started duplication. Just for a simple example.

As I said, we will continue to look into this, and we do not believe it will occur again. Very sorry for the trouble.

The password change on gmail caused the duplicates. It may have had a virus
that came in through your gmail extension. Do you have a history of
problems with the gmail extension?

We have had no other reports of this issue, nor with any issues related to this with the Gmail extension. Although its not what you want to hear, if it was some sort of virus, if it was related to the password used, then it should not happen again, though our extension does not have any vulnerabilities that we can see.

Greg,

As far as we can see it would be a general issue not related to Todoist, but somehow had caused the issue for us. We will keep an eye out for this and anything that could have allowed this to happen.
