Tasks out of sync between devices

PW

My tasks are constantly out of sync between devices (web and android), and it doesn't seem to refresh even after reload the page or the refresh option on the android app. I only get them refreshed by logging out and back in. It seems to be a cache issue, since it works fine when I disable Chrome cache in the dev tools.

Hi Pedro,

You say you disable Chrome cache, what does that mean? Please try clearing the cache and offline data for Chrome (Settings, Show Advanced, Content Settings, All Cookies & Site Data, Search for Todoist, Remove all)

Brendon.

That means opening the development panel, going to the options and checking the box "Disable cache (while DevTools is open)". I noticed that only solves sync problems that would be solved by logging out and back in anyway.

Right now I have two tasks visible on my Android and one of them not only isn't visible on the web, it isn't anywhere in there, and it was created days ago on the web. I can't find it on the search feature, including as a completed task. It simply disappeared from the web.

Pedro,

Normally doing as a suggested above can resolve issues such as this. Though since your Chrome seems to not be storing any information, that could be causing issues as well.

At the same time, I'd check my directions for clearing cache, and maybe your tool is not working correctly, and its still storing some information for Todoist, and removing this could help.

So you are saying the information on the Android app is correct and the web is wrong? If you sign out of the Android app, clear data for it and back in, does it still show the same information?

Regards,
Brendon.

No, I'm saying they are out of sync. In some cases the Android app is correct, in others the web is correct. I signed out and cleared data, it changed the information, but it's still out of sync when compared to the web, not to mention the task I mentioned above simply disappeared from both now.

Right now I have the web app opened in two computers, plus the android app, and each one shows different tasks for Today. The android App and one of the computers don't show overdue tasks on the Today tab. A few tasks displayed as overdue on one of the computers, don't have a due date set when I search for them on the android. Funny thing is that I recall removing the due date from them on the computer that shows them as overdue now.

So, a real mess... someone is not refreshing data as it should.

Pedro,

These types of issues are hard as we need to 100% be able to reproduce it, and at the moment I am not able too.

If you try to sign out of each location, clear the cache for the browser, clear data for the app and then, one by one sign back in. Though even this is a temporary fix if it does help the situation.

What are the details of your system? Browser, OS...?

Regards,
Brendon.

Window 7, Ubuntu 12.04, Android 4.3, Chrome 35.0.

After clearing cache it works, but that only helps the situation after I already noticed there is a problem. If I have to remember what I did in order to notice it's out of sync, what's the point in having a tasks app?

I remember something similar happened the day your server was offline and the web client couldn't sync with it. I did a lot of stuff before realizing it was working offline, and I expected would sync when the server returned. It looks like the remote data was synced, but not the local cache, and the web app would continue to show me stuff that was there before the server went offline, while the android app would be fine. It worked after I logged out and back in. It seems to be the same problem now, probably caused by some connectivity issue.

Hi Pedro,

As Brendon mentioned, we do need to be able to replicate the issue or at least have all relevant information to figure out where the problem is. We do take these types of issues very seriously.

You have given us some details and hopefully that would help us lead to find the cause of this problem. Unfortunately, not all users are affected by it so we have to find the specific scenario that triggers it.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Regards,

Clyde

I am having a similar experience with both Firefox and Chrome (not using desktop OSX version). The list of Today's items seems to get out of sync when accessing todoist from different browsers on different days. e.g. an item I mark completed today from my work computer will appear as not completed from by home computer tomorrow. The fix is to logout and then log back in and the page syncs again.

Matt,

How much time do you give Todoist when you load it up? We have seen this issue for awhile now, but almost different for people. Yet we are having trouble reproducing. I have noticed that if I load Todoist up in a location that has not been used for awhile, it can take up to 5 seconds to load proper information.

Regards,
Brendon.

Brendon,

Thanks for reaching out. Let me try giving it some more time next time.
Should I respond to this email if that's the ticket?

Waiting does not fix the syncing issue.

Hi,

We have been able to reproduce one sync issue which is related to dates, I am hoping once we resolve that one this will get fixed, as it seems very similar.

We are looking into it now.

Brendon

I get this issue between my Home laptop (Mac OSX 10.7 Chrome) and Work PC (Win7 Chrome).

I am auto logged in to both (it would appear the session never fully expires or my credentials are being stored somewhere - I don't think in chrome).

I only really notice it when I make significant changes to Todoist tasks (eg 30+ task date changes) when logged in at Home.

Then when I open Todoist at Work (auto-logged in) the changes to due dates do not appear. It would appear the LocalStorage cache is not being cleared (possibly a timestamp issue?). (note same applies if I'm at Work and make changes they don't appear at home)

To resolve thisI have to clear the LocalStorage via Developer Tools > Resources > Local Storage > todoist.com > clear all items.
