Hello Maikel,

So far, we can't reproduce this issue. Please try to completely reinstall the app and if the issue persists, please post step-by-step what are you doing that causes the crash (in what view are you, what properties do you set for the task, when exactly does the crash happen - when you hit "Done" or after it syncs).

Best regards,
David

David,

Thanks for your reply.

I just deleted and installed the app; this does not solve the problem. Reproduce the problem:
1. Start the app;
2. Hit the + sign to add a new task;
3. Enter a task name;
4. The app crashes.

I needed to log in to the reinstalled app; the app crashed before retrieving my data.

Can you please advice? The app cannot be used on my iPhone anymore!

Hi Maikel,

Did you recently change your password? Regardless, try issuing a new API token under Todoist Settings -> Accounts Tab. Then re-install the app again and try logging back.

Just a note, I tried the steps you outlined but I don't get the crash. Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Clyde

Clyde,

This (the API change and re-install) doesn't solve my problem.

I could login with my Google account (which was not connected to my ToDoist account) on the iPhone. This seemed to be working. The tasklist was empty (not connected at that time).
I then connected my ToDoist account with my Google account on the computer and logged in again on my iPhone. The resulted in yet another crash.

Please advise further.

Maikel

Update: the app badge shows the correct number of tasks due today, but shows "no tasks for today" and crashes after approx. 10 seconds.

Hello support,

Can you please help me with this issue? I rely heavily on the usage of ToDoist on the iPhone!

Hi Maikel,

Sorry we have not replied to your posts yet. Just to let you know what's happening, we have forwarded your log file to one of our developers and we're currently trying to figure out what could be causing the crash. We will definitely keep you posted if have some updates regarding the issue.

For now, I'd like to get some info in case they may become relevant:

- is your phone Jailbroken
- iOS version
- model of you iPhone

Figuring out what the difference might be is key to finding the resolution. As mentioned earlier, we're not getting the crash ourselves.

Really sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused.

Best Regards,

Clyde

Hi Clyde,

Thanks for you response. Answer to your questions:
- No; my iPhone is not jailbroken;
- I am using the latest iOs version (7.1.1)
- I am using the iPhone 5

Recap:
- The app badge shows the correct number of open tasks;
- I receive push notifications on my iPhone;
- The app can be opened on the iPhone; no tasks and projects are visible (I can see the help box, telling me to use the + sign to add my first task;
- After approx. 10 sec, the app crashes.
- I noticed this behaviour since the update of the app to version 8.2.1;
- I noticed this behaviour after renaming and removing labels.

Hi Clyde, Maikel Sheoratan.

I have the same problem - since the update of the app to version 8.2.1, after 10 seconds the app crashes.

I'm using:
- iPhone 4 (MD440LL/A), not jailbroken;
- iOS 7.1.1 (11D201);

Dear support,

Any progress regarding this issue?

Do you need information from myself or my device, due to the fact that you can't reproduce this issue?

Hi Maikel,

An issue with parsing links in the iOS app might be causing the crash. Typically, the syntax that you can use is "URL (Name of link)". This formats your link to be more readable. However, if your link is set to "URL (Name of link )", that can cause a crash. Notice the space after the closing parenthesis.

This might be difficult to identify visually so you can download a backup copy of your tasks and use a text editor to check if there's any tasks that have " )" space close parenthesis in it. If you find one, please try correcting it. After doing so, try logging back again.

We're planning to address in a future update. Please let me know how it goes.

Best Regards,

Clyde

Great! That did the trick.

I frequently forward e-mails from work to ToDoist. These mails include URL's (often from e-mail signatures).

This seemed to cause this problem. I'll stop forwarding e-mails for now.

Do you have an indication regarding the release date of an update?

Thanks for the help! I am very happy ^_^

Hi Maikel,

Glad to hear that did the trick. Unfortunately, we can't give a release date of the update right now. Feel to check later for updates.

Clyde

I have a similar problem question do we need to do this for all tasks or just active tasks?

Thanks, this has now worked for me. It's also a pain not being able to forward emails to todoist as I also use this very frequently, any idea STAFF when we will get a bug fix on this ?

Hi Craig,

Good to know that it's now working fine now. As for the fix, we're hoping to include it on the next release but the date is yet to be determined.

Clyde

I have the same problem too. Todoist is unusable on my iPhone but OK on my iPad. Does that make sense?

Update: It now crashes on my iPad too. The crash cycle only starts after logging out and attempting to log back in again. I will now try the suggestion from Clyde above and see if I can find any spaces in the URLs

Hi Steve,

Please let me know if you're still running into any issues after looking for spaces in the URL.

Update: OK. That fixed it. If it helps anyone else then I used this regex to find offending URLs:

(?<=\s)\)

Hi Steve,

Again, sorry for the inconvenience. We're hoping to address this on the next update of the app but there's to ETA for that yet. Thank you for sharing some tips also for other users. It's greatly appreciated. :-)

Clyde

Besides the url space issue I find that I can't use the note link url of Evernote anymore. I email my Evernote notes to Todoist with the url "evernote:///view/48356.......". It is clickable in the Windows app, but not (anymore) in the IOS app. The app crashes when I click this URL. It's a vitale part of my workflow, so a solution is greatly appreciated.

Hello fotopierke,

I have already reported the issue where clicking Evernote links crashes the iOS app. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Steve,

Sorry about that. There has been no progress as of yet, but we are working on it. To be clear, are you referring to the issue above your post?

Brendon.

Yes. And now I have lost all my work from today (in the desktop app) ... which is also now refusing to reconnect. My phone app is obviously out of sync too.

Can you bump this problem up your priority list?

It is making your apps unusable, and it is a long time since the problem was reported.

Steve,

To be clear, you have logged out of both locations, re-installed the iOS app?
