How can I add an email as task?

SD

There is no button to get an email as a task. Is that a premium function only? I thought Thunderbird plugin is Thunderbird plugin.
The easiest way for me "plug and play" also doesn't work.

Hi Steffen,

So you have downloaded our extension from Todoist.com/thunderbird and installed it. You are't able to add emails as tasks? Do you see the Todoist panel or the button in the menu bar? Try right clicking on the menu bar, customize and see if there is Todoist that can be dragged to the menu.

Regards,
Brendon.

Steffen,

Make sure an email is selected, and the Add Email as task link beside Add Task within the project should appear.

Brendon.

Ah, OK, it appears.
But now I have the same problem like described in the other post. It comes a message, I have to mark an email.

Sh ... now is the button "Add Email as task" disappeared again. I clicked the right mouse button and clicked reload to try what happens. Now i know it, the button "is going away".

See the screenshot: I mark an email.

I use the standard theme and deactivated all Add-ons and plug-ins, but it is always the same.

Steffen,

I'd suggest clearing the cache for Thunderbird (if you use Firefox this can work as well) and try again. I have yet been able to reproduce this problem.

And to be clear, sometimes the add email link appears, sometimes it does not, when it does it gives an error message?

Regards,
Brendon.

I cleared the cache and cookies. But I can not add an email as task. I have the same problem like Giuliana:

In Thunderbird with Todoist installed and pane open. I click on an email in my Inbox then click on "Add email as task" at the bottom of Todoist. I get the message "Please select an email first before adding it as a task." Tried over and over again, no luck. No clicks in between selecting email and clicking Add link. Also tried quick link and that gives same message.

Steffen,

Make sure Thunderbird is updated to the latest version, make sure our extension is updated to the latest version. As I have yet been able to reproduce this issue.

I will pass this along though to see if we can find the cause.

Brendon.

Steffen,

I will pass this along. Hopefully we can come up with the cause of the issue. Anything else you can think of that may help.

Steffen,

As in, you sign in with Google to Todoist? Then no, this should not be the cause of the Thunderbird issues. If you are able to record this happening, it would help us troubleshoot the problem.

Brendon.

I can not record it. Another hint: I use the German version.

Steffen,

In that case, does the issue occur when using Todoist in English?

Brendon.

I can not change the language for the Thunderbird plugin. I click the link to change the language and change it. But the web version only is now in English, but Todoist in Thunderbird remains in German. It is the same after I logged out Todoist and shut down Thunderbird.
Is there another possibility to change the language, perhaps in a file on the disk (with editor)?

Steffen,

To be clear, do you sign out and use the link on the sign-in page (the bottom, current language as a link) and that does not work, or going through Todoist's settings page? Try both options.

That being said, German should not be causing this, but confirming if English works will allow us to look further into this.

Brendon.

OK, the first way worked (the second one with Todoist settings page doesn't work). Now it is in English.
But I have another problem now. After login Todoist asked me after login with Google, if it should change the time zone to Berlin. Unfortunately I said "Yes" (it asked me the first time) and the effect was that the link "add email as task" disappeared again. grrrrr
So I can't test it.

The reason was really the change of time zone, it was obviously.

Hi,

the link "Add email as task" is appeared again overnight! So I selected an email and clicked the link, but it was the same with English. The Message "Please select an email first before adding it as a task." comes. Todoist doesn't want to work.

Steffen,

Just so we can clarify, the issues you are having are..

- The "add email as task" link that appears when using the Quick Add + menu (or within the project) sometimes is not available. You have of course made sure you are selecting the emails?
- And now you also (when it is working) get the error message "Please select an email first before adding it as a task." when you do indeed select it?

So you have the Todoist panel open, on the email list, you click on an email, and of course the email is showing in the next panel, you go back to Todoist, click the + button and no Add Email As Task is there, or if it does, gives the error?

Just wanted to confirm 100% so that I can try to reproduce properly.

- Make sure Thunderbird (or Firefox) is accepting all third party cookies. You can also add Todoist as an exception. If you need help with this I can describe how.

Regards,
Brendon.

Hi Folks - there appears to be some flakiness with the "Add email as task" link appearing in the Tbird todist window now. Seems to have started with the update to Tbird 24.5.0, at least that is when I started noticing.

The behavior of having an email selected, opening the todist window, selecting "add email as task" and being told to select an email first has been there for me day one. I have to select another message, then select the one I want to add, and todist will add it.

Yes, exactly.
Now, the "add email as task" is there, but gives an error, nevertheless I have selected an email first. I cannot repeat the workaround of Kirk Grier.

Cookies are allowed in Firefox and Thunderbird. There are five Cookies of Todoist in Thunderbird: todoistd, _utma, _utmb, _umtc, _utmz

Hello Steffen,

Thank you for the video. In it, you're clicking on the same email every time. Please tell us, does the issue persist if you select a different message? Or when you select another one and then again the one you wanted?

In other words - does it only happen with the first message you select in this "session" or literally with every other message all the time?

Best regards,
David

Yes, it persists.
"Or when you select another one and then again the one you wanted?

The bug is absolutely independent of the message or the order in which I select different ones.
