Create from email "link" doesn't work if you move the email?

MA

Just purchased the software based on the marketing material. Seems that the "Add email as a task" feature with link back to the email doesn't work if you move the email. Is this correct? This is a big gap if this is the case. I know how the outlook hyperlinks work as I have coded around this myself in the past in Outlook VBA. I know this can work but you need to move the email to the destination folder before creating the hyperlink. I can code a solution for this myself if I know how to call the "add email as a task" action from VBA. CAn someone tell me how to do this. Even better (or as well), can you please fix this so that the link works.

Hi Matt,

Sorry for the inconvenience. We are aware of the issue and is currently working on a fix though we can't say when it will be available.

Best Regards,

Clyde

Ok, thanks. So 2 things.

1. Can you please tell me how to call the "add email,as a task" method from VBA.

2. My advice - allow me to specify a destination "filed" folder to store my emails, move my email there first, then create the hyperlink. Not that I am telling you 'how' to do it of course

I really like the software, and I hope you guys iron out the few 'issues'.

Wait, so your saying that if I create a task from email in my outlook inbox... then move that email that Todoist can no longer open up that email?

Ben,

It's a known issue, and we are looking to resolve it. It actually does not occur for most users, only certain ones.

Brendon.

Brendon, really? Surely it is the same for everyone. The URL link in Outlook is specific to the folder location. If you move the email to another folder after creating a link, then the link wont work. That is my understanding.

Matt,

Out plugin will search through all folders of your email account to find the related email, and should do so. I myself am not sure how the ID works when the email is moved, but the developer set it up so it can be searched and found once moved. The issue is that sometimes, it does not. Which is what we are trying to resolve. From testing, and the amount of people having this issue, it's not everyone having the problem, and isn't easy for us to replicate.

That being said, any information about your specific system, settings, type of network your on etc could help. Though we have already tried to see if it's related to certain versions etc.

The way it's suppose to work can be slow, as it needs to search through everything, but it mostly works, of course, excluding a few.

Regards,
Brendon.

I don't know what your team is working on. If you are using the GUID approach, then I am pretty sure that once you move the email, the GUID will no longer work.

Any update from the developer on how to call the "move to todoist" action from VBA? I can solve this problem for myself (and others) if you can just share with me how to trigger the action. :-)

Matt,

Sadly no. The truth is we actually have some issues when it comes to our developer on that platform, and are looking to resolve it, as well as still trying to maintain fixes.

I will let you know when we have any new information, or fixes. Sorry about the trouble.

Regards,
Brendon.

Any update on this?

If we can somehow get more info on the add-in that would be great as most of the workflow issues can be resolved through VBA that way.

Hi Onur,

Sadly, not yet. We'll update this thread though if we have news or if a fix is already available.

something funny here - This works for me now 100%. I can move the email after creating the link, and when I click the hyperlink, it opens the email.

Clyde, are you sure that this has not been fixed and you don't know it?

Matt,

No there has not. Though it has always been a difficult issue, where some users would have no problems at all. If you can think of anything that changed for you, it could help us out.

Well all I can think of is that I uninstalled the plugin and then reinstalled it. I know it wasn’t working, and now it is working. I don’t know if the timing of reinstall is related, but I can’t think of anything else.

Regards

Matt

For some reason the search started working for me too!

I didn't reinstall the plug in either, strange but good news :).
