Next 7 days list doesn't update overnight

AA

Hi- I find the Todoist desktop app "next 7 days" view the most useful, but I've found that when I wake my computer in the morning this view doesn't update to reflect the current date. I have to jump to "Today" or "Inbox" and jump back to make it update.

Am I missing something here? Or is this a feature that can be implemented?

Thanks.

Hi Art,

Do you leave your computer/laptop running and connected to the internet over night? If you're using the Mac app, changes should be reflected to it without you moving from "Today" or "Inbox". I tested this myself and changes I made in the browser were reflected on the Mac app seconds later. Is it not the case for you?

Also, make sure you're running the latest version which is Version 4.1.5.

Regards,

Clyde

My computer is connected to the Internet overnight, and I am using the Mac app. It has been awake for several hours now and the Today page has not refreshed.

I'm using Comcast and I think the router drops the connection when my computer goes to sleep. I have Growl installed and whenever I wake the computer I get a "network link up" message a second or two later. My suspicion is that if the link isn't up immediately upon waking the app doesn't refresh until some sort of activity occurs.

I just tested this theory by creating a test task on my iPhone. As soon as I set it the desktop app updated with the new task and the correct Today view. Before that, though, it was content to show me yesterday's view indefinitely.

Art,

There has been another report of having to switch away from Next 7 Days and back to see any changes. To be clear, this is only an issue on start up with your system correct?

As in, once that is fixed, it does not happen again through-out your usage?

Brendon.

That is not correct. My system sleeps overnight--I don't shut it down--and in the morning after waking it up the Today view (which remained open) does not update to the current day unless I do one of the following:

(1) Click to another view and click back

(2) Add a task via iPhone, at which point the app syncs and refreshes.

I haven't added a task via desktop app when the Today page hasn't already refreshed, so I can't give you any info about that.

Art,

Sleeping is what I was referring to when starting up. If it disconnects from the Internet this is causing the issue. Now it should re-connect once it's there. If you hit the refresh icon (bottom right) does it grab the new content? Or only when changing views.

Although it does not refresh automatically, it should be working, if using the sync/refresh button.

Brendon.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. I don't see a refresh icon on the bottom right of the Mac app... as best I can tell there's nothing on the bottom right but blank space and a scroll bar. All the controls are at the top right: quick add, notifications, karma and settings.

My system has been up for about a half hour and it has not updated. There's a menu option to sync under the "Window" menu... hitting that now. It updated immediately.

My sense is that the OSX app checks once to see if it's online upon waking up and then doesn't check again until something happens within the app that forces sync. (Although that doesn't completely make sense either as adding an item from my iPhone caused an immediate sync in the desktop update.)

I feel it's important to be able to glance at my second screen after checking email and see what's on for the day, so I'd love to resolve this issue.

Thanks for your help. I love the app otherwise.

Art,

I will double check all with the developer but from my understanding, the Mac App will update only when something happens, such as you mention adding something on another app, or using the sync/refresh options. Changing views is another one of these things. We will look into improving this in future updates.

Brendon.

I have to say that I'm really disappointed in the OSX version of this app. I just got home from a long trip and I was surprised to see a number of tasks that I'd completed still listed, and a number of others missing. I had to mark another task complete and change daily views for it to update. I expect my to-do app to show my current list of tasks at any given time, or at least to update on its own upon my computer waking from sleep or maybe sync once an hour.

I left Wunderlist because they didn't have a clean way to enter a task and a due date. I love ToDoist, but while the OSX app looks great and has a very friendly UI I can't believe it doesn't even the basic sync functionality of something like Evernote, or even my calendar app.

Any plans to update this or am I just stuck working with the web interface?

By the way, I just built an "app" in Fluid, which is simply a stand-alone web browser that looks like an app on my desktop, and loaded in my Todoist home page URL. It updates automatically within seconds of my adding a task on my iPhone. It seems to have all the functionality of your Mac desktop app but with auto update, and it looks and works exactly the same.

I'm not a programmer, but if I can do this and your OSX developer can't... that's not good.

Art,

We will be changing the engine that it uses, to Chrome. So issues such as this could be resolved once this is done. We are sorry for the trouble it's causing you.

The issue though is our App does update but would appear some users are having trouble with it. I haven't been fully able to reproduce the issue, but we are looking into it.

Brendon.
