Is the API currently up and running? If so, how do I use it?

RW

I would like to write an app using the api, however I can't get past login. Shouldn't I be able to get the json response from login if I fill out this url correctly?

todoist.com/API/login?email=my@email.com&password=myPassw0rd" rel="nofollow">https://api.todoist.com/API/login?email=my@email.com&password=myPassw0rd

I have tried my email and password (and I url encoded them) and all I get in the browser is "LOGIN_ERROR". I do get a 200 OK but never a good login.

Help!
Richard

Hello Richard,

Please make sure that your password doesn't contain special characters such as # & ? / \ ; : and try it again (to check if it's an encoding issue). I've used the same call now with a simple password and a test Premium account and it works correctly.

Best regards,
David

David,

Thank you so much for the response. I'll update my password for any special characters and try it again. Additional question, do I have to have a premium account to be able to use the API?

Richard,

You don't need a Premium account to use it. I've just tested again on a non-Premium account and it still works so please try it with a simple password and if it works, then it has to be an encoding issue.

David

David,

I'll admit that I was using the wrong email address. Once I got that figured out it was smooth sailing. I accidentally created two todoist accounts a while back when I first discovered Todoist and have been using only the one account, but thought it was tied to the other email. Is there any way that I can get you to delete my other account? I would like to switch over my account to that other email address, but I can't because it says that it is already in use. Both email addresses are using the same domain.

Hello Richard,

Unfortunately, we can't delete accounts, but you can do it yourself. Log into this account, go to Settings -> Account and use the "Delete my account" link.

You can use the "Forgot password" option on the login page if you no longer remember the password for the other account.

David

Well, I've actually already done that. I've deleted the other account, however, when I go to change the email address on the account I am using I get a jscript popup that says" "Email already found". I tried to login using the other email and and tried using the "reset my password" feature and it tells me "We couldn't find anyone with that email address". So it appears that I am stuck on that.

Thank you again for your responsiveness and all of your help. I love the product!! Keep up the good work.

Richard,

It seems that the account was incorrectly deleted - this could have happened if you've deleted it at the time right after we've introduced Todoist Next. There was a bug with account deletion which was fixed, but some accounts deleted at this time could have left some traces of them unfortunately.

To fix this, please try to sign up for a new account with the same email address (of the other account) and it should work. Then you can delete it again and this time the deletion will work as expected.

Best regards,
David
