Recurring Task Bug

JS

I have many tasks set to recur annually. One of these tasks must have accidentally been checked as completed, as I found it in the completed tasks. I unchecked the task to move it back to the active task list, but it always disappears again after a few seconds even if I edit it first. I discovered that every time the task is checked as completed and then unchecked to recover it, the year of the task increments by one. Even if I edit the year back to 2014, it disappears and increments again from whatever the last year was -- right now it's on 2020. When this happens I also have to click to a different project and then back again to see it in the completed task list.

First of all, a recurring task should never disappear from the active task list, only the due date should change accordingly when it is checked as completed. I have no idea how this happened, as I have three other tasks that are identical except for the date and none of them have this problem. The other behaviors I mentioned are all very ugly, but the task should never have gotten into this state in the first place.

Secondly, I tested one of the well-behaved recurring annual tasks and when it is checked as completed I cannot change the year back. It will let me pick a year while editing, but when the change is saved it simply reverts back the accidentally incremented year.

I've recreated a new recurring task to replace the buggered one. It seems to be working fine, but it is very concerning for an important scheduled task to disappear if I am trusting Todoist to keep track of these things. It's also not reasonable to have to recreate a duplicate recurring task if one is accidentally clicked.

Hello Jake,

Please tell me what's the exact due date formula as you've typed it into the date field? Also, did you at any point hold SHIFT while checking a task off? This would move a recurring tasks to history.

Also, please try to log out, clear your browser's cache, Todoist's offline data, reload the browser and log back in making sure that you always access https://todoist.com directly and don't have a bookmark that could point to an URL with an older version number.

Best regards,
David

The date string was "every 31 October @ 4pm".

I didn't hold shift that I know of, but if I checked off that task at all it was accidental so I guess it's possible, but unlikely, that I accidentally shift-clicked it.

I've already deleted the bad task, so I won't be able to test logging out, etc.

Jake,

Thank you for this information, I've been able to reproduce the issue with the task disappearing when you try to un-complete it and have passed it to the developers.

As for the reason why it was removed from the list - unfortunately, I'm unsure why it could happen. Are you using any of our mobile apps or any third-party Todoist-based apps? Also, please note that the "Move task to history" option also does the same as holding SHIFT during completion.

Best regards,
David

Please also see if you can recreate the issue where the year cannot be changed backward on a recurring annual task after an accidental click.

Thanks as always for your diligent attention.

Jake,

I'm pretty sure that it's the same issue. The un-completed task should stay on the list and not disappear, once that's fixed, editing the date incl. year will work as expected.

David
