Plugin truncating subject like when adding email to task

PW

When I use the gmail plugin to add emails as tasks in my todoist, the subject line sometimes gets truncated and I lose part of it. For instance, I have FogBugz notification emails I'd like to make into a task with a subject line like.

FogBugz (Caso 123456) Projects - Project Overlord (ABC) - ABC - Discombobulate the discombobulator.

But TD adds it as :

Project Overlord ]ABC] - ABC - Discombobulate the discombobulator.

Hello Pedro,

Thank you for your report. Unfortunately, we may not be able to fix it as it interferes with the formatting we use with URLs, including links to emails.

When you manually add an URL, you can use this format:

A link to https://google.com (Google)

where the work in the brackets becomes an anchor for the URL before it. For emails, we also use this format, though we hide the full link. Nonetheless, all the text in the subject is the anchor inside the (hidden) brackets.

Now, with two extra pairs of brackets, the script can't handle it correctly. We've already implemented a workaround to handle one pair which, as you see, converts them to these - ], but with two of them, it still has issues.

We will consider looking into it again and hopefully find another solution. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards,
David

Wow... I expected that to be some bug, but you're telling me your syntax for text formatting can't escape the special characters it uses? Seriously?

Here's a hint:

I was seriously considering todoist as a replacement for Google tasks, and I'm enjoying it so far, but the ability to easily send those emails to tasks is my primary use of it. That you can't do it correctly because of an amateurish bug like that is really, really disappointing.

David,

Any chance this bug will actually be fixed soon? I'm really enjoying using Todoist and I'll certainly sign up for premium after the trial if that's fixed, but as it is now, it doesn't make my life easier.

Pedro,

I've passed it to the developers and we'll look into implementing multiple ways to escape characters in certain situations (without affecting the linking functionality).

Best regards,
David

Hello Pedro,

This issue has now been addressed and subject line containing parentheses will work correctly (they'll be swapped with []).

Best regards,
David
