New version available notification but nothing happens

Today I saw Todoist sporting a green settings icon. I clicked on it and said, "New version available". I clicked on that and then basically nothing happened. I have checked "About Todoist" and it says version 2.6.4.0. Is this the latest version?

I am on Windows 8.1

I must add that I noticed this in the Chrome extension as well. I checked my list of extensions and the Chrome version is at 6.2

Hi Pratyush,

Just to clarify, this is not an update for the desktop app or the chrome extension. When the gear/cog turns green, this means that a big change related to the web core has been made. This means that not all changes will trigger this and there might not be any noticeable differences. This prevents refreshing Todoist at a bad time.

As for version 2.6.4.0, is this the version number of the Windows desktop app? Please let me know so I can check for you.

Regards,

Clyde

Thanks for the info Clyde. And yes, 2.6.4.0 is the version number of the Windows desktop app I am on.

Hello Charles,

We often deploy minor changes on a daily basis. When you see the gear icon is green, that means that a significant change has been made in the web core that needs to be applied. This notifies you that a there's an update and allows you to apply the change on a time of your convenience thus preventing changes occurring on a bad time. Often, you will not see a visual difference as most changes are related to the backend. However, expect to see the green icon every now and then as we are constantly improving Todoist.

Just to clarify, this is not an update on the Windows or Mac application itself.

Regards,

Clyde

I'm seeing about 3-4 times a day. It gets somewhat annoying.

Zachary,

It should not happen that often. So you are using which version and see this happen that often?

Brendon.

I also get the green cog often more than once a day, at least it feels like it. It's definitely several times a week. I'm using Chrome on OsX and Win 7

I just realised this thread is in the Windows Forum. I'm using TD straight from the browser, not the App...

Hey Brendon, I'm using the same platform as Seb Kouba. Chrome beta. I actually use a lot of different platforms, but only have the problem on Chrome. Could using different platforms be the source of the problem?

Zachary,

If you update on platform, then go to another and it has not been refreshed, it would show the green gear icon again. Though a simple sync/refresh would fix, not having to click the update button that many times.

Brendon.

This happens to me an awful lot - many times throughout the working day. Is this normal? You guys develop fast.... (!!)

I've noticed that for me part of the reason is that I use different browsers on different machines so every update I have to click the green cog quite a few times in different places.

Hi George,

It is normal since where improving the app on the daily basis. :-) The reason we're deploying these update this way is you can apply major changes at a convenient time for you thus preventing refreshes on a bad time.

Clyde

Hi everyone, this was driving me nuts, but I figured out the "problem". I had a bookmark set with a full, logged-in URL, that did not include the v= query string. Since their URL now includes version number, i.e. https://todoist.com/app?v=305, my old URL that was bookmarked did not. Therefore, every time I hit the site, it would pop up that an update was available because it thought I was out of date. I changed my bookmark to just point to todoist.com, and now all is right with the world :)

Genus, thanks a lot! This solved my problem too. FYI, I just made my bookmark url https://todist.com, that way I'll be good to go for future changes to the version (and it automatically refers me to the "today" screen).
