Is the Search facility 'broken'?

RM

Although I can see the results if I scroll through my completed Tasks, the term cannot be found when searched for in Completed Tasks.

I recall this being an issue (quite) some time ago. Has this issue reappeared?

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions.

Hi Randy,

Can you share with me the exact task description and query keyword that you are using? It is possible that there's a character somewhere that's causing it not to be found while searching the tasks. You can also just send a screenshot to my email at clyde@doist.io so I can take a look at it. (1 screenshot of the completed tasks and 1 screenshot of the keyword that you're using during the search and the result).

Regards,

Clyde

Hi Randy,

I have some updates for you.

There are 2 probable reason why those tasks are not showing up.

1.) If you have opted to "Delete completed tasks" in a project, those completed tasks will not be searchable anymore.
2.) Completed tasks in archived project will also not be searchable

Can you please confirm if this the case for the examples that you have emailed to me?

PS. The "View all completed" is just a log of your completed tasks. If either of the two above is true, those tasks will not show up in search results.

Regards,

Clyde

Clyde,

Thanks for the feedback, but neither of those conditions apply. If the task had been deleted after completion, then I would not have been able to view them by Show All Completed Tasks, correct? :)

Also, my Personal category is not archived.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Hello Randy,

That's not correct, if you would delete it, it would still show on the list you're referring to.

To clarify - there are 2 lists of completed tasks:

1. The one you can access if you enter a project and then click on the circle at the bottom - this is the "physical" list. If you complete a single occurring task - it gets stored on this list and you can un-complete it. If you complete a recurring task, it will not be stored there until you "Move it to history".

2. The one you can access via Karma -> View All Completed - this one does not "contain" the tasks, it's more like a log of everything you've done. Here, if you "complete" a recurring task, it will log every single completion of it (unlike the list in a project).

That said, if you've ever entered the project in which the task you're looking for was completed and in this project, you've used the "Delete completed" option, it will clear out the physical list of tasks that are completed and stored in this project, but this will not affect the history/log shown in the "View All Completed" log.

Now, when you search for a task and click on "Show completed", the system looks only for tasks that are still physically there in a project on its complete list, it doesn't search through the log.

So to clarify - you have never used the "Delete completed tasks" option in any project and if you go to the project in which this task should be completed and click on the circle at the bottom - you will see it there, is that correct? Or is it gone from this list too?

David

David,

I used the 'Karma view' in order to show the dates on which the Tasks were completed, in case the issue was 'age related' (task, not mine <grin>).

I've never used 'Delete completed tasks'. I can still see the tasks when I click the circle at the bottom of the Personal category. They are then found using Chrome's Find dialogue.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Randolph,

Thank you for clarifying. I will now pass it to the developers to make sure it's not a recurrence of the old issue (as you've mentioned - we did have such issue in the past).

David,

Any progress on this topic? Could this have anything to do with the 'time change' issue last fall, as new occurrences of the search term is found, but not occurrences that were entered and completed before last autumn's change from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time.

Randolph,

This issue should be addressed now, we've been rebuilding our indexes and you should be able to find all completed tasks by now.

David
