Rescheduled tasks showing up as done in "see done tasks"

S

I just checked my list of done tasks - via the Karma link - and every task I rescheduled today is showing up there as done, at the time I rescheduled it.

That makes it rather hard to see which tasks I really did - is there a way around that?

Best wishes
Silvia

Hello Silvia,

Can you please let me know how you are rescheduling your tasks? I'm trying to replicate the scenario you are describing with no luck.

Regards,

Clyde

Hello Clyde,
I rescheduled the tasks with my iOS app, using the "tomorrow" button. Maybe the iOS app is the key here?

Hello Silvia,

Please tell us - what's the exact due date of the task and what's its current day at the time you've rescheduled it? So far, I couldn't reproduce this issue on version 8.2 (coming soon).

David

Hello David!

All those tasks were due today - most of them rescheduled to today - and shown on the today view.
I rescheduled them with the "tomorrow" button from the today view.
I didn't notice that happening before - but I didn't check the done tasks for quite some time.
I'll go and try and reschedule a task to see what happens!

Hello David!

I just tried it with a task that was due today at 14:30. It's set to repeat "every Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday at 14:30". I rescheduled it with the iOS app on my iPad and an entry was created in my tasks done list, with the time stamp of now.

Silvia,

The due date:

every Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday at 14:30

is invalid and Todoist doesn't accept it when I type it into the date field. Please confirm if that's really exactly the date as you've typed it in, no spaces between the days, full day names and the "and" between Wed and Thu" (which is not supported)?

Best regards,
David

Ah you meant the exact wording - that would be "ev mo,tu,we,th um 14:30". Um is German for at.

Silvia,

I assume you're also using Todoist in German? If so - I've been able to reproduce this issue, but we will most likely not fix it.

Technically, we don't support due dates that include more than 2 weekdays in non-English versions. Now, if you're using Todoist in German, but trying to avoid this limitation by using a half-English, half-German due date, then we can't really guarantee that it will function correctly in any way.

However, in this case, it seems an issue with our iOS app as even correct due date formats such as "jeden Mittwoch, Freitag um 14:30" oder "jeden Dienstag, Donnerstag um 14:30" seem to cause the same behavior. That said, I've passed it to the developers and we'll look into this in future updates.

Best regards,
David

Hello David,

I find these limitations somewhat restricting - and as we can't select the language in the iOS app, I'm a bit set back.

The "ev mon,fri um 20:00" example in the help section of the time setter led me to believe that the mix of English and German is perfectly acceptable. There's no mention of any limitation anywhere in the app.

Furthermore I find the attitude of "we don't support that in your language, tough luck" a bit unfriendly.

I'd like to get a complete documentation of the restrictions to non-English speaking customers so I don't waste my time trying.

Silvia,

Please clarify - do you have the language settings in your phone set to German both in the actual "language" part and in the "Regional Settings"? If both are German, then you should see a German date example, if only the language is German, but the local settings aren't then this could cause the main UI to be German, but the dates not.

I'm sorry if you found my answer unfriendly, we lack the support for more than 2 weekdays for every non-English language due to technical complexity. As much as this particular date format is possible to maintain in English, when combined with all possible international day names and their unique shortcuts, using more than 2 becomes very complex and prone to errors if we'd add more.

It is actually the only restriction out of all dates. Every other date can be used in German or any other supported language the same way as it is in English, you can use "jeden Tag", "alle 4 Tage um 16:00 ab 20 Apr" etc. - all will work, only in case of multiple weekdays, there's a limit of 2 for every non-English language. We're sorry for the inconvenience, we'll see if we can rewrite our date parser to make it possible in future updates.

Best regards,
David

Hello David!

I just checked my iPhone:
I've got my language set to "German", but my regional setting is Austria. Perhaps that's the reason for the half English, half German examples? The mixture is quite funny, actually.
Perhaps this could be fixed in the new version, too?

Silvia,

Yes that would be the cause. The region settings needs to be the same as the language setting on iOS.

Brendon.

Hello Brendon,

This request leaves me baffled.
You want me to set my region to another region than the one I live in?
Why should I do that?

Silvia,

Technically, it doesn't really matter in many cases. In this case, it shouldn't as German is also used in Austria. In general, the "regional" settings only affect the way dates are displayed throughout all apps an iOS. If you'd change it from Austria to Germany, it shouldn't make a difference, but just for the purpose of identifying the issue reported here, it would be interesting to know if that does make a difference.

It's surely an issue on our end, but again - to know if it can be narrowed down to the regional settings would be helpful :-)

Best regards,
David

Hello David!

Ok , I'll try to change to Germany in the evening and report back if the dates are displayed all in German then.
At the moment, one example shows "16:00" and in the ne4xt one, "2:00pm" :-)

Best wishes
Silvia

Hello David!

I changed my region to Germany, but the todoist app was not impressed - the help stays half English and half German.
An interesting note: the dates are not displayed in the same way all over, as I mentioned before, it's "16:00" and "2pm" side by side, plus "jeden Wochentag", but "ev 2nd Monday".

Silvia,

Thank you, we'll look into this n our end.

The time display is actually correct, we wanted to show that you could use either the 24-hour format with 16:00 or the 12-hour with 2am/pm, but technically something like "ev 2nd Monday" should not be visible to you, you should see "jeden 2ten Montag" there. We'll check this out.

Best regards,
David

Hello David!

There's also "next friday" and "ev mon,fri um 20:00". But that can certainly be fixed :-)
Now if the rescheduled tasks would not show up as done...

Silvia, Mike,

We're working full-time on this, other fixed, new improvements and new features. We're sorry for the delays, but especially on iOS, it's difficult to push multiple updates for each fix considering the approval process. It should be all addressed in the next version coming soon.

Best regards,
David
