Linked Mail in task does not open

MB

Hello,
because Todoist has (not yet?) a PlugIn for Mac Mail I made some experiences with Thunderbird first (which I do not like) and Postbox then. Adding E-Mails works but would be much easier when I would not have to open it first (only marking in the list does not work). But a really big problem ist that the linked mails do not open when I'm clicking on it: not in the PlugIn, nor in the Mac-App, not in Web-App, not in Chrome-Plug-In... Where ist the problem?

Best regards

Markus

Hi Markus,

Our desktop email clients use a special URL/ID of the email message. Due to this it requires the link to be opened within the program it was created. So tasks created from Postbox need to be opened in Postbox.

We hope we can improve this in the future. Gmail on the other hand, can open from other locations if the device supports it.

Regards,
Brendon.

Hi Brendon,
I did make the link with Postbox, not with Mac Mail or Thunderbird...

No I notice that some links open while others do not. Would it help if I forward you one of the ones not working?

Last but not least: Very fast response, that's good customer service!

Best regards

Markus

Markus,

Please clarify, you created a task with Postbox, and some of them can be opened from the web or another Todoist app? That is not the cause. Or are you saying that within Postbox itself, only some are able to be opened?

Regards,
Brendon.

Hi Brendon,
sorry, I was not clear enough: It was in Postbox itself where they didn't open. First, for hours, no one opened, then some worked and others not and now, strangely, do work also the ones that first did not...
Perhaps Postbox was busy with organizing its mail-database - or have you any other ideas?
In fact, ther is another strange behaviour in Todoist within Postbox for which I open a new Post though, closing this one as resolved.

Thank you and best regards

Markus

Hi Brendon,
I have two new mails added from Postbox as tasks that do not open again
in Postbox. As you may see in the attachment there is a HTML-Command
opening them in Thunderbird despite of working in Postbox. Some ideas
how to resolve this issue?

Markus,

I do not see any attachment. Please send it to brendon@doist.io. The Postbox plugin is designed/ported from Thunderbird, and there may be the reason it's causing this.

Regards,
Brendon.

Hi,

When you create the task from email, do you edit the name, or anything at all when adding? As there should be no HTML code at all, it should just be a link.

Brendon.

Hi,

I am having the same issue, if I create a task within postbox and then try to reopen it within Postbox it doesn't work, I have tried both changing the name of the task and leaving it as created but it doesn't seem to make any difference. This is an important feature for me and a quick fix would be appreciated.

Thanks

Robert,

Do you have more than one Inbox? As in, more than one account?

- Add an email as task
- Go to an inbox of a different mail account
- Try to use the link to this email

Is this the case for you?

Regards,
Brendon.

Hi,

Yes I have double checked, when in All accounts I select an email, select email as a task, once created if I try to go back to the mail by clicking it doesn't do anything.

Would an half way house be to automatically copy the text and attachments of the mail, if you can't get the linking working?

Thanks

Rob

Hello Robert,

We'll look into this, but yes, you could use the other option to add emails as tasks - by forwarding them. Right-click on a project and go to "Email tasks to this project" for more details about this feature - it will convert the entire email body to a task note when you send it to your project.

Best regards,
David

Hi Brendon,
sorry to be late but I was out of office again.

In these cases I didn't change anything. In othe cases, I added some
text to the description and it worked still.

Hi is there any news? The last reply was nearly a month ago.

An update would be good.

It seems my question was answered but to be sure. So I locate an email in Postbox and add email as task. But if I access my gmail from a browser, I cannot open the email I tasked in Postbox through gmail, and vice versa -- although all are listed? Thanks

Hi,

I am afraid this was a show stopper for me, I have uninstalled all Todoist apps. Please can you let me know if this will ever get fixed or if it is so low a priority that it will never get done?

Thanks

Rob

Hello Rob,

The reason why this takes so long is the fact that we've unfortunately had to terminate our agreement with our Thunderbird and Postbox developer :-( We've been hiring new ones since May: https://todoist.com/blog/2014/05/announcing-four-new-job-openings-at-doist/ with moderate success. We really hope to have someone on board really soon, but at the same time, we will not make any compromises when it comes to their skills to avoid further issues, new bugs etc.

That said, this will be the first task for the developer we'll hire.

Best regards,
David
