Notes Not Editable When Entering Multiple Notes for a Task

I created a task with several notes. When opening the popup to view the notes it shows the last notes added to the task and I can use the scrollbar to scroll up to the notes added earlier. When I scroll up to to the notes added earlier they are, however, not editable. Please fix this bug as soon as possible.

This seems to be related to https://todoist.com/Support/show/26209/.

I am using Chrome 33.0.1750.154 on Windows.

Hi Erich,

When you say not editable, is it because the pencil icon is not available? Try editing one of the tasks that is editable and try hovering to those tasks again to see if you get the pencil icon (edit) back for those tasks.

Also, can you please tell me how many tasks are affected by this and how often it happens? I'm trying to see if I can replicate the issue so I can report it.

Regards,

Clyde

Hi Clyde,

yes they are not editable because the pencil icon does not appear when I hover over the notes.

My task has 12 notes, each note has approximately the same size (few lines of text). When I open the popup to display the notes it shows note 7 partially and notes 8-12 completely. When I hover over notes 8-12 it shows the pencil icon. When I use the scrollbar to scroll up to notes 1-6, or 3-8 it does not show the pencil icon.

I have only one task with more than one note, but I would assume that this happens for all tasks with multiple notes that don't fit into the popup (require scrolling).

To reproduce try to create a task with 12 notes, put 1-4 lines into each task. Then close the task popup and open it again. You should then be able to edit the last few notes but when you scroll up the pencil icon would not be available to edit the first few notes.

In essence it seems the pencil icon is only available when the scrollbar 'hits the bottom' or is close to it.

Best Regards
Erich

Hello Erich,

I tried recreating based on your steps but I can't seem to replicate it.

Can you please confirm that after editing any of the other notes, you are still not able to edit the ones are not currently editable?

Clyde

Hi Clyde,

I just created a new task with several notes. The problem is the same, can't edit the notes that are not shown (completey) and require scrolling up.

Please try to reproduce with the following steps:
1. add new task with title 'test'
2. click the text icon to open the note dialog
3. add the following note:
a
a
a
a
4. add the following note:
b
b
b
b
5. add the following note:
c
c
c
c
6. add the following note:
d
d
d
d
7. add the following note:
e
e
e
e
8. close the note dialog
9. open the note dialog again
10. scroll all the way up to the first note ('a')
11. try to edit it

Best Regards
Erich

Erich,

I have followed those steps exactly and can edit the note each time. Do you have any other Chrome extensions installed, something that may change website UIs, or block certain content? If you disable all of them, does it still occur?

Brendon.

Hi Brendon,

strange. I just tried on another machine with an older version of Chrome and I have the same problem there. There are no extensions installed.

The Chrome window on my machine is too small to display Todoist entirely. A vertical scrollbar appears. So in total there are two scroll bars visible when the notes dialog is open. One from the note dialog and the other further to the right. When I first scroll up in the notes dialog the notes are not editable. When I then scroll with the outer scrollbar they become editable again.

Could you please try to resize your Chrome window so that you Chrome displays a vertical scrollbar for the Todoist web app and try to edit the notes again?

Best Regards
Erich

Erich,

You would have to link to a screenshot of your window size, I tried to make it small and did not have issues. Though if the Window is small enough, it makes sense it would cause this.

Brendon.

Hi,

the window is not tiny, it's just that with the resolution on the laptop it doesn't display the whole app. I am afraid I can't provide any further details to help and reproduce this.

Please note, however, that others [1] are facing the same problem. It's not a big issue when you have only one long note as you can scroll to the bottom and edit _that_ note. But when you have multiple notes it makes the notes non-editable, hence basically unusable.

As a workaround I will probably avoid creating multiple notes for now and structure one long note into several sections :-(

Best Regards
Erich

Same problem here. However, it doesn't happen when the task has too many notes: it happens when the task has a very long note.

The pencil doesn't appear when the chrome window is maximized. If you work with the window not maximized, the pencil appears.

Hi Marcelo,

Does this happen every time? Can you please let me know what browser you're currently using right now?

Clyde

Hi!

I was using Google Chrome. I'll need to test it again tonight, right now I'm at work and here the error doesn't happen. Maybe because here I'm using Firefox and the screen resolution is much higher than the one of my personal laptop.

Hello Marcelo,

I am using Chrome and I'm not experiencing the problem myself. In order to be able to fix the issue, we need to have a replicable scenario that we can report to our developers so they can fix it.

Please let me know if you're still experiencing the issue. The more details that we have the better.

Best regards,

Clyde
