Syncing is not working properly

DF

Hi,
I have repeatedly had big problems with syncing between my devices.
I have tasks on my phone that are not synced to the web version.

An example from today:

Web version
Inbox: 13 tasks
Today: 28 tasks
Next 7 days: 32 tasks

iOS app
Inbox: 17 tasks
Today: 31 tasks
Next 7 days: 60 tasks

Is there anything that I can do about it? Are you planning any improvements? I have annual subscription and am very disappointed with the sync. I can't trust the service when it works like this.

thanks,
David

Hi David,

What version of the iOS app are you using? Can you do an update if it's available? Another thing we can try is re-installing the app and see if that helps. I know it's a long shot but it's worth a shot.

Please let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Clyde

Hi Clyde,
I don't think the problem is in the iOS app. I have the latest version - 8.1.1.

It seems that sometimes the tasks that I enter in my iPhone don't sync into the web app.

Anyway, I have manually deleted/added tasks and hopefully it's going to be better now. I also reinstalled the iOS app.

Thanks for your help,
David

David,

Any details about these tasks that are different from ones that do sync? Let us know if it continues.

Regards,
Brendon.

Nothing special. Sometimes I enter a task (usually in Inbox as a quick note with no labels or dates) and when I relaunch the app later, there is a duplicate task to this one. When I delete one of them, both disappear. Things like that...

I'll let you know.

Thanks,
David :-/

I am experiencing the same thing with the duplicate task and the not
syncing and everything on the Android app.

Hi,

8.2 of the iOS app is coming soon, please let us know if it continues once updated. As for Android, another update will be coming though it should already be fixed.

Please try clearing the data for the app, and logging back into it.

Regards,
Brendon.

I don't know if it's related, but I'm having a similar issue right now. Though mine seems to be more of an issue with automatic syncing. A couple examples (looking at the Today view):

1.) Completed a task from my iPhone
2.) Noticed the task was still there on my Outlook Todoist pane.
3.) Refreshed Outlook pane, and the task went away.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the Outlook add-in and reproduce the issue. Same steps, same outcome. Another example (shows it's not particular the add-in):

1.) Pulled up my Todoist list in Chrome.
2.) Completed a task from my iPhone.
3.) Noticed that the task did not disappear, waited at least a full minute.
4.) Closed the browser window and navigated to my list again.
5.) Noticed that the task was still there, but disappeared after several seconds.

A final example to isolate if it was an iOS issue:

1.) Completed an item in my Chrome page of the Today view.
2.) Noticed the item was still in the Outlook pane.
3.) Waited a full minute, noticed it was still there.
4.) Hit the manual refresh button in the Outlook add-in, and saw it disappear.

Thanks,
Nick

Nicholas,

Our desktop clients do not auto refresh, well not exactly. If changes are made, such as changing views, adding a task, etc then it will refresh all data that has been synced to the servers. If it's just sitting there and nothing going on, it's not going to show new information.

Brendon.

Hey Brendon,

Thanks for the reply. When you say "desktop client", are you including the Outlook plugin? If so, I'm a little confused because I swear just last week I was marking things off and adding things on my phone, and they were popping up and checking off automatically in the Outlook plugin. In fact, I could also swear I submitted something to David via email mentioning it as a bug a while back, and he assured me it would be fixed in the next release, and sure enough it was (and started updating without manual intervention).

However, if you're actually talking about the Windows Client, I don't ever use that. Not to mention, this issue was occurring on the web site as well. So like if I navigated to todoist.com and pulled up my Today view... Normally that updates automatically without me having to change any views or refresh. To clarify a bit further, it doesn't even seem to update when I switch views. For example, I tried this just now:

1) Went to todoist.com (https://todoist.com/app?v=204&r=1396494241#agenda/7__days)
2) I had one item left for the day, so I postponed it to tomorrow from my iPhone
3) The item is still sitting there, no matter where I navigate. I can click the 7 day view, any project, any label set, my inbox, etc. etc., and it still doesn't go away.
4) I closed out that tab in Chrome and opened up a new one and navigated back to that same page, and now it has been shifted to tomorrow.

I don't believe (at least based on my experience) that this is working as designed.

Thanks,
Nick Wilson

Nicholas,

You are correct. My mind in the last reply was in a totally different place, sorry about that. I was indeed not referring to the current state of Todoist.

Anyway. it does seem to be an issue. Though to test, if you add or complete a task in Outlook, does it show up on the web version (without refreshing etc)?

It could indeed be related to these iOS issues, which we hope will be resolved on 8.2. Though if the suggested above results in the same issue, then it may be un-related.

Brendon.

I also have some issues with syncing. I use Todoist web app through Chrome most of the time, but occasionaly I add or complete some tasks in the iOS app. When I open the iOS app it often happens that there are still some tasks visible (and overdue) that I completed a few weeks ago. This doesn't change even if I manually refresh the app.

Hello Borut,

We'll implement some syncing improvements to the next version of our iOS app (8.2), please let us know if this will continue on the new version once it comes out.

Best regards,
David

Hey Brendon,

Well, in testing your scenario, it seems to be specifically an issue with the Outlook plugin. I had different results last night, but here's what I tested just now:

1) Opened up todoist.com 7 day view in Chrome (browser, not extension app), iOS app, and Outlook.

2) In Outlook, added a new task to my inbox due today called "New Task".

3) Watched it pop up in my 7 day view on both the browser, and the iOS app

4) Completed the task in Outlook

5) Watched it complete and drop off of browser and iOS view

The next thing I tested:

1) Same setup

2) Created a task in Outlook called "New Task 2"

3) Watched it pop up in both browser and iOS views

4) Completed the task in the browser

5) Saw it complete and drop off of the iOS app, but not the Outlook plug in. After waiting a full minute, I manually refreshed in Outlook, and the task dropped off.

I tested this 2nd scenario a few different ways to isolate the Outlook plugin, such as:

- Adding tasks in iOS and seeing them pop up in the browser, but not Outlook
- Adding tasks in browser and seeing them pop up in iOS but not Outlook
- Completing tasks in iOS and seeing them check off in browser but not Outlook
- Completing tasks in browser and seeing them check off in iOS but not Outlook

So there definitely seems to be an issue with the Outlook plugin, at least as of right now. Last night, I do feel there were issues going on elsewhere, but those seem to have cleared up.

Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Thanks!
Nick Wilson

Nicholas,

It's still possible that the issues we are having with iOS (which should be better in 8.2) could cause these issues you are having. As it all tends to happen in the back end. That being said, please let us know if it does continue once 8.2 is out.

If it does, please start a new thread about it :)

Regards,
Brendon.
