Windows 8 Phone

RM

I'm a potential new premium user but do you expect an official W8 Phone app shortly? Without such an app it's not working how it used to be. The solution suggested on this platform to use the mobile or regular browser version is not realistic. In case there won't come a W8 Phone app then the conclusion is that todoist is not available for W8 phone users. It's a pity because I think this program really could help me and my company. Please be honest about the short-time expectations of the required app instead of advising to use the browser version.

Hi Robert,

Feel free to vote on the Windows Phone related suggestions in our votebox. http://todoist.com/Vote/

At the moment we are not working on or have any concrete plans to build a Windows Phone app, but we would like to support as many platforms as possible, so it's very possible it will be eventually. Of course, we then can't give any type of ETA for this.

Regards,
Brendon.

Hi, I've just got a lovely new Nokia running Windows Phone 8. I knew there was no official Todoist app, but I was disappointed to find that I could not get either the full or the mobile web site to work either.

There would be no need for an app if the mobile web site worked with my phone, because it could easily be pinned as a tile on the start screen. However, although it can show me how many tasks are due today, I can't seem to find out what those apps are! I tap on today but nothing happens. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Are there any instructions?

The full web site won't even give me the option to log in. If I go there via the force full site link I can log in but the formatting goes haywire.

I've had no such problems with other web sites, mobile or otherwise, and generally my impression of Windows Phone 8 is that it is more professional than Android and likely to overtake it for business users.

Hi Simon,

We are looking into issues with the browsers not working on mobile, though we are having issues reproducing that.

There is an un-official app for Windows Phone though, you may want to check it out for the moment. We don't support it, and do not know how well it is done, but may be worth your time. http://www.windowsphone.com/en-ca/store/app/metroist/dc8d3a13-de05-46ec-90c5-e1996abaa81b

Thanks Brendon, I did have a look at that app although I had reservations about using a 3rd party site. It seemed to have some sync problems e.g. I could mark a task as done but when I returned to it, it was undone!

On your mobile site, I found if I tapped anywhere on Today [3 tasks] nothing happened. If I pressed and held on it, a horizontal black line (loading?) appeared then I was given the option to open in a new tab, however the tab was always empty. My best results so far have been in using the main site because it is just about functional enough to read today's tasks and check them off.

I'm using a Nokia Lumia 620 which has downloaded a load of updates from Microsoft so I think it's all up-to-date. I doubt if the browser is fully HTML 5 compliant but Microsoft are really putting their weight behind Windows Phone 8 (not least by buying Nokia!) so I'm sure it will become an important platform quite soon. Despite all their false starts, the Windows compatibility is excellent so I'm sure it will win over a lot of PC users from Android.

I noticed also the free todoist lite app (not from todoist)

I think the answer is yes, but would you allow someone to develop a non free Windows Phone app for todoist (using the API) ?

Yes, we do allow them to develop apps based on the API that we provide.

Ok, cool, the API looks nice... That could be a great project to provide a good App.
And a great challenge because it is not easy to make a top notch GUI (although we can reproduce the one from the iPHone for example)

Thanks for your answer !

Hi,

I just wanted to say that I really hope you'll make Windows Phone app too. I had android phone before, and W8 phone is much faster and has better usability. I see you created app for desktop Windows, so why not for phone too?

I wish you happy developing!

Hi,

I'm also looking for a good app for Windows Phone, now I use Metroist, which has basic functionality only, but still can display my tasks and allows quickly adding new tasks.

Hope that one day i'll be able to use generic todoist app.

Kind regards,

But obviously Todoist doesn't understand this...

Todoist must not waste a minute anylonger! It's the best to do program in must get on windows phone platform as a real app! Otherwise it's gonna be gone soon. They know it, just didn't refresh their priorities yet. Let's hope they'll come around soon! Windows and Nokia are premium platform and premium phone with users ready to pay for funcionality! This is no android joke! But maybe that only me,... we'll see!

I've been using Todoist for a while now and I just had to switch to Windows Phone because of my new employer. The unofficial app doesn't work for me because it doesn't have an option to login with your google account. The mobile website is a stopgap measure at best and won't really promote productivity.

I've been using a TaskCrunch (third party Todoist client) for some time and I have to say it has almost everything what I need! What's more it has frequently, regular updates with new features and it's becoming better and better. It's free (Try) but you can support a developer by (Buy).

Highly recommended for all — I'd tested all Todoist apps for WP and this one is the best!

the developer is quite reactive, as Angelika said just above : go look for "TaskCrunch"

ex: I have a tile on my home screen that displays the priority 1 tasks. I use this all the time. dates are integrated into the agenda...

I am a Windows Phone user myself and as much as I would like an official Todoist Windows Phone app I understand why it's not a priority for the developers. Windows Phone's market share is terribly small, especially compared to Android and iOS. On top of that Windows Phone isn't a growing platform that you can invest in, in fact it's losing ground every single month. Having said that I'm now using the TaskCrunch alternative which works pretty well now, all the features are there and syncs seemslessly and reliably. The TaskCrunch livetile is an excellent feature you don't have on other devices.

Pedro Carreira premium

The WP platform is not losing ground 'every single month' and ToDoist could really take advantage of universal apps (for Windows Phone and Windows 8) just like Wunderlist did (and they work great!).

Since the vote box is now closed, I'll voice my support for Windows Phone 8 application as well. In the business world, Windows Phone is the better choice all the way around. I've got both Windows and Android devices and the Windows device is more stable, easier to develop on, more secure, and interfaces almost seamlessly with the Windows apps most businesses use (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, etc.)

I do have Android devices so I'm able to compare and I've considered making the change. Android just doesn't seem serious and business compatibility isn't there until they get an actual IE web browser (made by Microsoft). I won't even consider Apple because of the extremely proprietary nature, the difficulty in getting devices, and the ridiculous cost.
