Showing all tasks not attached to a project

NP

After some recent housekeeping and re-org, I have a bunch of tasks not assigned / attached to a particular project. On the web version, these are not shown but they are all still visible on my phone.

Is there a filter / search I can do on the web to get them to show so I can properly delete them ?

Thanks

Hello Nigel,

It's not possible to have tasks not attach to any project. Assuming that you're referring to tasks in the Inbox "project", to see them, simply click on the "Inbox" link. All tasks are either in the Inbox or in custom added projects.

Hmmm. Here is a link to a screen shot from my phone showing tasks in Inbox, in my POORLY PC project and those without a project. I have a lot of "orphans" on the phone so I need a way of managing them from the web.

Nigel,

That has to be a caching issue. Did you delete some projects or archived them lately? Can you search for the names of these tasks? And what do you see in the "Project" field when you edit one of these tasks on mobile?

Yes, the projects were deleted. It was a mistake by me as the system let me delete a project without warning me there were still tasks within it. The tasks were not lost as I had already exported and imported back into my master project, adding labels by hacking the text file.

They have no project when editing on the phone, just the word "Project" in light grey.

Can I clear the Todoist cache on the phone, or it it simplest to to uninstall and re-install and let it build the task database again ?

Nigel,

Technically, if you would select a project in the edit menu for them, they should then appear everywhere. Try to do that with one task.

If you don't want them then clearing the cache should do. Reinstalling the app certainly will. If you were online lately, then the data synced with our server so reinstalling the app wouldn't cause any data loss, next time you'd log in, everything would be there (except maybe the orphaned tasks).

David

Re-install fixed it. Can I suggest an addition to the "delete project" code that detects attached tasks and warns the user before allowing the delete ?

Thanks for your help, David. Have a good weekend.

Nigel,

That's exactly what our app should do, we're unsure how could it let you delete a project without a warning and not delete tasks in it. Usually project deletion does remove all data in it.

Through which version of our app did you delete this project?

Web version, on Firefox 27.0.1, performed 19 March 10PM UK time.

Nigel,

We'll look into it, so far we can't reproduce this.
