Difference Between Schedule & Date Field In Task

D

I am unclear on the difference between the schedule functionality located on the task at the task list view level and the date field located within the task itself. When I change the date via the schedule button, I would expect the date field to update as well. Can you please explain their intended purpose?

Hello Darren,

The schedule option does not change the date of the task, it's more like an extended postpone function. For example, if you have a task due "every Monday" and you've missed it and want to reschedule it for tomorrow, you can do that through the Schedule feature, but if you complete it, it won't affect the recurrence pattern of the task so the next instance would be next Monday (March 31st).

The date field, on the other hand, will directly affect the task's date and recurrence pattern so if you'd change a date of a task due "every Monday" to "tomorrow", it will no longer be a recurring task, just a single occurring task due tomorrow which will disappear when you complete it.

Best regards,
David
