Different information

I am seeing different tasks on my Windows Chrome browser to my Mac Chrome browser and Android phone chrome browser.

On Windows and important task with lots of notes is missing (not filters) but I can see it on my Mac, any suggestions?

Many Thanks

Hello Terry,

Please tell me - does the Mac app show a red.orange warning triangle? If so - this would mean that it went into offline mode and isn't syncing data. Please try to click on it to force a sync, or use the sync option from the TD icon on the top bar.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

I'm assuming you mean the Chrome extension, if so then no there is no warning triangle.

I have tried to force a sync but still nothing. Any other suggestions?

Many Thanks
Terry

Update: The task is now also missing from my Mac.

Terry,

This is a long shot, but is it possible, these apps may be signed into different accounts? Also to confirm, are all the platforms different? Or Chrome and Windows the same, or which are the same?

Regards,
Brendon.

I guess it was worth asking, but no, it is the same account on all devices.

So now all devices are the same in that the task and notes is missing from all devices! Previously it was missing on my Windows laptop and not on my Mac.

Just to confirm I was accessing Todoist on both devices using Chrome browser.

Can the item be restored?

Terry,

It would seem that the information was never synced, and you were offline at some point and it is now lost. Now I am now saying this is what happened, but normally that is the only way tasks and data can be lost.

So that being said, no there isn't away to get it restored, as it would appear it was never added to your list. If you add a new task now, is it syncing ok?

Brendon.

Thank you for coming back to me.

The task had defiantly synced, I said this because I generally use my Windows laptop by day and my Mac by night and I know the task was on both, so it must have synced at some point.

Can I ask why you think the task was never synced?

Many Thanks

Terry,

Because at the moment you can't find it at all, assuming you have searched for it, and nothing is found, on all platforms. The only way we have ever seen tasks just getting lost, are when they were added offline, and not synced. That is the reason I believe that.

You are right though, that you said it was shown before, so it's very odd. Now I am going to suggest logging out of all locations, clearing the cache (and offline data) for all browsers, apps (clear safari for the MacApp) etc and logging in one by one. The only issue with this is, if it's not synced yet then it would indeed be lost by doing this.

Though it does not make sense to begin with. Again, if you add items now, does it sync to all devices? Or is it still being an issue?

Regards,
Brendon.

I just downloaded backup "2014-03-17 07:58 UTC", checked the txt file for the project and sure enough I can see the task, surely this means it was synced? In which case something on the backend has gone wrong?

Regarding logging out of all instances and that there is a risk of losing the task.... as I said on "Mar 19, 2014 - 12:09" the task is now also missing from the Mac and so now I do not have it anywhere. I have done as suggested and still the task is not showing.

I can confirm adding items now and at the time do and did sync to all devices with not issues.

Thanks
Terry

Terry,

If everything was synced, then there is no worry to logging out and clearing cache, as that would only remove things that were not synced. If the backup has it, please try to do so for all apps/locations and see if everything goes back to normal.

Then you can of course use the backup to re-add those problem tasks. If it's working now then it appears to have been a fluke, and we will investigate, but it's rare to see these issues.

Brendon.

Hi,

Is there an easy way to import just the one task as opposed to the whole project?

Thanks
Terry

Terry,

No, the backups will include everything that is within them.

So am I correct in thinking I would have to create a new project, import the backup and then move the single task to the old existing project and then delete the new temp project?

Terry,

Yes, at this time, that is the way it's done.

Thank you, I have now restored this task. You said in a previous post "we will investigate", can you tell me how its going please? I'm just worried about my other tasks, some could go missing and I may not notice until its too late.

Also a related question, how long are task attachments kept for on completed tasks?

Thanks
Terry

Soooo....

I have been having a read of offer peoples issues and it seems that the item wasnt missing but in fact is not being picked up by the search, even after I search and click "Search Completed Tasks" I do not see my completed task.

Yet, if I go to the Karma Trend and then click "View All Completed" and browse down the list, I can see the task. Do you have an indexing issues?

Thanks
Terry

Terry,

As David has mentioned in the other thread, did you ever use the Delete Completed link within the project? The reason it would be in Karma and not within Projects, is if it was deleted.

Attachments are kept for good, unless otherwise removed by you. You should not have anything to worry about, as losing tasks is not commonplace. This issue appears to be very weird and not a normal issue.

That being said, your issue has seemed odd from the beginning. Please try to add a new task, completing it and see if it shows up within the projects completed list.

Regards,
Brendon.
