Viewing attachments

R

It happens on Web and Android.
Each click on attachment causes its download. It is really annoying especially on mobile phone. Is there any way to just view them (say images, PDFs).

Hi Robert,

There is no way to "view" attachments at this time. We will consider adding viewable options in the future.

Brendon.

But that's not entirely true - it started happening only a while back. I used to be able to just view my attached PDF files, no problem, in chrome (and I still can do that with a PDF I've uploaded a month ago, but not ones I've uploaded in the last couple of weeks).
It seems to me that something did change on the back end (or wherever).

Pavel.

Hello Pavel,

On our end - all we do is to return an URL to the uploaded file. How your browser reacts to this URL and whether it asks you to download the linked file or display it is handled directly by the browser itself.

That said, did you install any plugins lately? Updated your browser? Installed a software to read PDFs which overrides the browser's default settings to display the document?

Best regards,
David

If you returned an URL to the uploaded file, browser or any other default software would open it. Additionally it happens in any browser, in any mobile device I own (running Android and Windows 8).

It looks to me you are sending Content-Disposition header to set the file as an attachment.

Hi David,
I think I've found out the reason for this - the latest Chrome updated messed something up in the PDF Viewer plug-in. I believe that's what's causing the undesired behavior.

Pavel,

Thanks for that information. Though, just to be clear it is the browser that allows the viewing of files, probably just PDF. We do not offer any viewing abilities at this time.

Regards,
Brendon.

It happens with any file type I guess. Most annoying is trying to view images (PNG, JPG). Each time browser downloads the file.

Any progress on the issue?...

Robert,

This was not an issue we could resolve, as it was related to the browser. Though, we are working on an update to support better file attachments, and showing a preview of an image, is one of those things.

We do not have an ETA at this time though.

Regards,
Brendon.

I think if you just removed forcing download functionality everything would be fine, because system defaults would take care of the file.

I moved to TD from other systems, because web interface and Android app convinced me. Everything works beautiful. Except attachments which are just unusable :/
