Uploading .txt file to task

MG

Is there something wrong with uploading a 1KB .txt file to a project? I'm unable to do this.

Hello M,

Please clarify - do you want to upload a task template to a project or a file to a task's comment?

Either way, please tell me - does this file have a long name or does its name contain any special characters? Also, how exactly can you not upload it? It doesn't let you select it? You see error messages? If won't finish uploading? The link doesn't work?

Best regards,
David

I want to upload a file (txt) to a tasks comment.

It does not contain any special characters. The file name is Guest List.txt.

I receive an error message from todoist saying there was a problem, that you are working on it, and that I should try again later.

M,

If you upload another file, anything other than that one file, does it give the same error message? Also, do you have a strong connection at the time of uploading?

Which browser is being used to do this?

Brendon.

This is my first upload ever. It is only one file. I've tried several times with the same errror message. I have a strong internet connection, using IE9.

M,

I was asking if you can try a different file, not the same one. It's possible something for what ever reason is wrong with that one file, even though it's tiny. As we are having trouble reproducing this problem.

Brendon.

I tried a second file. It was titled Venues.txt.

I received the following error message again:

Some errors occurred, please fix them and try again: â—¦Unknown error occurred, this error has been logged and we'll look into it. Please try again later.

Gant,

Did you create a new file with the same contents? As I was hoping to see if the contents were some how the issue. So another file with 100% different contents inside, to see if that one uploads.

Nonetheless, which browser are you using and does this occur in another one?

Regards,
Brendon.

I did not create a new file with the same contents.

I created a new file with 100% different content. This new file was named Venues.txt.

I am using IE9. I am unable to use another web browser as I'm using a work computer and we are not allowed to download new browsers. Our network restricts us to using IE.

Gant,

Unfortunately, that may be the main issue. As we do not support IE9 anymore. Please tell me when you get home, and using a newer browser, if the issue continues.

Regards,
Brendon.

That's too bad. I guess I won't be using Todoist at work. Sadly this is the one place I needed todoist the most for projects.

I will try at home and get back to you tomorrow.

I went home last night to use a different broswer (most current version of Safari) on a Mac (most current version of OSX). This worked using the Todoist app for Mac.

BUT... and this is a big BUT... there was a problem.

I was not able to click on the upload link to select my txt file. This wouldn't work in Safari. The only way I could upload the file was to drag and drop it into the todoist window.

My evaluation:

1. Uploading txt files at work using IE9 does not work with Todoist
2. Waiting to finish my work at home using Safari (with drag and drop) works but is inefficient and time consuming. I have other things to do when I get home.
3. Proper evaluation of Todoist once my Premium renewel comes will take place
4. Keep my eyes open for an alternative to-do app when the time comes for #3.

Hello M,

We're sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about IE. This browser is know for its "quirks", causing problems for devs, making multiplatform support difficult or impossible in some cases and if it won't accept our standard correct implementation of uploading files, then we can't make it accept it :-(

You've said that you're not allowed to use anything else than IE at work. Could you ask your system administrator to at least update IE to IE 11 which works fine, allows you to upload files without any problem and of course introduces better security to your company (as any update does).

Other than that, we're sorry for the inconvenience, but there's not much we can do on our end about this :-(

Best regards,
David
