Syncing Problems on Web, Mac App & Android App

P

Constantly get the red warning when adding new items.
Android app does not refresh unless I log out and log back in. What is going on? It's been a struggle to use Todoist for the past few weeks. I understand that new releases can have bugs, but inability to sync is just not acceptable.

Hi Pranay,

- Which browser are you using?
- Which version of Android are you using?

If you log out of the web version, clear the cache for it (and offline data), log out of the Android app, clear the data for it (or re-install) as well as the Mac App (which means clear the cache for Safari) then one by one sign back in. Does the sync still not work, and is off?

What exactly is off, everything, or certain items, like notes?

Regards,
Brendon.

Browser - Chrome(Mac OS X Mavericks)
Android - 4.4

Are these steps necessary for the sync to work correctly? Shouldn't the app work without me having to sign out and clear the cache for all the different apps and browsers?

Pranay,

Yes of course it should work without doing this, but since you are having issues and I can't seem to reproduce it. Doing this could resolve the issue for good.

Regards,
Brendon.

Signed out and cleared cache/data for all three apps. Will let you know if I see the issue again.

Pranay,

- Web version shows triangle and has issues grabbing new information?
- Android does not refresh unless you log out and back in.

Is this correct, as it appears to be two different issues. Are you still having both of these issues? You also said, all three apps? Which apps are you using, Android, Chrome, and?

Regards,
Brendon.

I clearly mention in the first post: Mac, Web & Android.
Web version is out of date for me right now as it's showing completed tasks.

If you prefer, I can start a different post for this issue. It's a syncing issue though.

Hello Pranay,

So far we can't reproduce such issues. Do you share your network with multiple users? Do they utilize its full bandwidth? This would be a typical sign of a network's full bandwidth in use where other apps can't get through. Or are you using a proxy server or a VPN?

You've said "I understand that new releases can have bugs" - does it mean that this started to happen when a certain new release came out? If so - which of our apps did you update that started this - the Android app or the Mac app?

Best regards,
David

I don't share with multiple users. Not using proxy server or VPN.
These sync issues started to occur when you released the new UI for all you apps a few weeks ago.

Pranay,

We've released "Todoist Next" on January 21st. Technically, logging out and back in should be enough to make any fix we've implemented ever since to apply, but just to make sure, though you've said you've done that, did you use Chrome's standard cache clearing options?

If so - this won't remove all offline data. Please go to Chrome's Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All cookies and site data, search for "todoist" and then remove everything Todoist-related from this list. Reload the browser and this will load not only new a new regular cache, but also any new offline storage.

Let us know if after that the issue will recur. If it does, delete our Android app and see if it ever occurs while you're not using it - we suspect a sync issue that originates in the Android app (is it possible that the tasks that should be completed were completed on Android).

We're very sorry for this, we'll certainly fix it, for now we've extended your Premium time by +2 months as a reimbursement for this inconvenience.

Best regards,
David

Thanks David. I appreciate the detailed response and the two free months.

I have now deleted the Chrome offline data by following the steps you outlined. I hope this fixes the issue.
I don't want to spend more time troubleshooting this issue. Deleting the Android app will be difficult for me since I only have one smartphone. In this case, the tasks were NOT completed from the Android app.

If this issue occurs again, is there a way I can grab logs to help your devs troubleshoot this issue?

Pranay,

Unfortunately, you can't send us logs from the web-version, but we're looking into these sync issues now and so far, based on other reports, the Android app does seem to cause this, we'll release an update with fixes as soon as it's done.

Best regards,
David
