What's the default sort order?

Pretty quick question, but it's something I haven't been able to figure out. What's the default sort order for tasks? I no longer use Priorities, so I removed them all, but all of my p4 tasks show up in completely random order no matter the view, except the Project view. Today, my custom filter - they show up in the same order, but it's not the order in the Project. You can see it here: http://chir.me/NA2PFW

It really puts a wrench in repeating tasks, because like in my example, I can't have the Daily Review as a task, with each step a subtasks, because they show up twice in the Today view (once on their own, once as a subtask to the parent task). If I only set the parent task with a due date they show up only once, but they are already checked as complete from the last time I did it.

So, what's the sort order used for tasks in non-Project views? I'd like to create my tasks in such a way that they show up in order, but as far as I can tell, it's random.

Hello Devon,

The order is by time, priority and custom order. If you want to maintain the order of sub-tasks, you could either try to give a due date to the parent task and view them through this parent task (by expanding it using the arrow next to it) or set due times for these sub-tasks - this will guarantee that they will have a fixed order based on their times.

David

Repeating tasks don't work when you just give a due date on the parent task, because the subtasks always stay complete, even when the parent task repeats. And setting due times is a nightmare :( The items don't have due dates at all, so why is it sorting them randomly? I created the tasks in the order they're in in the Project view, but that order is all messed up once I look at them in any other view.

Devon,

Please tell me - if you give a recurring due date to the sub-tasks AND the parent task, and then use the arrow on the left side of the parent task (in 7 days view) to view its sub-tasks, are then then in correct order on this list or also randomly shuffled?

Best regards,
David

They're correct there, but shuffled when they show up in the 7 days list outside of that parent+subtasks setting. Well, NORMALLY they are. But this morning I sorted them into their correct order in one of the views, can't remember which, but now they seem to consistently show up in the right order in every view. Hooray!

Scratch that... I went down the list, in order in the Project view, and added a priority to every one (p1) and now they're shuffled again :(

Here's a screenshot of it, again, with another set of items: https://cloudup.com/cKqqv2WFhaO

I went right down the list and added the repeat due date to all items, in order, yet No. 1 in the correct order shows up last when separate.

Devon,

We'll look into it. For now, please refer to the sub-task list below the parent task. Sorry for the inconvenience.
