Notification for "Recurring Events" does not work

Hi,

I have two events set up with notifications for "Everyday" and also "Every Weekdays" both at 7:00 am. The setting on "Notify 10 minutes before the event" and I got the notification on the first day but nothing ever since.

The notifications are supposed to come through to my mobile (test worked) and also to my e-mail however I haven't received anything from ToDoist on neither on my mobile or e-mail.

I've tried setting the notifications again, deleting both events, setting them up again but still nothing's coming through.

Please could you advise what I should do to make it work again?

Cheers,
Mari

Hello Mari,

Please tell me - are you using Todoist in English and have typed English dates into these tasks? We're looking into a similar issue which involves using any other language except English so please confirm if that's the case.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

Thank you for your reply. The language is set in English and everything is typed up in English; including in every tasks I have entered.

Some notifications come through but not all. For example, this morning, reminder set for 7:30 am came through (10 minutes before the event as I asked) on both to my phone and my e-mail but not the other reminder I set for 7:40 am. No e-mails nor text came through when it's set exactly the same way.

I started relying on ToDo list quite a bit and I don't use my Google Calendar as much so it's concerning to know it can't be 100% reliable in terms of reminders.

Please could you advise what I should do or look into?

Kind Regards,
Mari

Mari,

Just to clarify - were both reminders set for the same task? If so, completing the task or postponing it before the second reminder is due to arrive may cause it not to arrive and that's intended.

If there's any pattern to it or anything specific about the tasks or reminders that don't arrive, please let us know so we can trigger, reproduce and fix it as soon as we can. For example - does it affect tasks from one particular project or with one specific recurrence pattern?

Hi David,

Thank you for your reply.

Both reminders were completely different tasks. They were, however in the same "Project" folder - now they are in different "Projects" as I've created new "Project" today.

I'd need to confirm this tomorrow but I think the reminder goes off fine for the very first time but not from the next day even when they're set as "recurrent" event for "every weekday", for instance.

The programme has recognised the command for "everyday @ 7 am" and "every weekday @ 6 pm" and those reminders both went off fine the first time. I don't recall the reminders going off the second time though - I will check this and get back to you.

Also, as a background information (not sure if this is relevant however), I have ToDoist App on my iPhone, iPad and on my Mac. Updates/Sync's never been a problem between those devices.

I've also set all those tasks with reminders from my Mac. These were then synced automatically to the rest of my devices without any problems. Except the fact reminder didn't go off.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
Mari

Mari,

One more thing - so the task is set to "everyday @ 7 am", it has 2 reminders - the default "30 minutes before" and an additional "10 minutes before", the first one arrives, second not and on the next day none of them arrive for this task at all?

Hi David,

Apologies for the confusion; basically, I have 2 different tasks. "Task A" is set for"everyday @ 7 am" and "Task B" is set for "every weekday @ 6 pm" They are both supposed to go off "10 minutes before".

"Task A" went off OK on Monday at 7 am (10 minutes before, so 6:50 am to be precise).
"Task B" went off OK on Monday at 6 pm (again, 10 minutes before so 5:55 pm)

Both Task A or Task B never went off on Tuesday, 7 am nor 6 pm.

I then set up Task C on Tuesday, which has nothing to do with previous Task A or B, reminder set for later on that Tuesday (5:30 pm) and again Wednesday (5:30 pm).

Task C went off on Tuesday 5:30 pm but not on Wednesday 5:30 pm.

This has happened to all the other tasks with recurring reminders - so they would be Task D, E, etc. They would go off the first time I set it up but nothing happens from the next time.

Please let me know if you require further clarification and I'd be happy to help. I'm probably not explaining this too well anyway :/ sorry about this; it is quite difficult to explain.

Kind Regards,
Mari

Does the reminder also have to be recurring?

In the Reminders dialog, in the Date and Time box, you have to type "every weekday @ 7am"?

Hello Zane,

It does have to be recurring, only if you use absolute reminders. Mari uses relative ones "10 minutes before".

Mari, is that correct - the reminders are the ones that actually say "10 minutes before" and you're not typing in a date into the reminder field? If you are using a fixed date for the reminder, then they will indeed not recur, if you pick the relative reminders (x before) - then that's an issue as they should automatically recur if the task is recurring.

Please confirm that and I'll pass it to the developers.

One more thing, though - after you get the first reminder, complete the task for this day, do you then still see the reminder being set for the task or does it disappear?

David

Hi David,

I can confirm that the reminders are the ones that says "10 minutes before" and I have not typed a date into the reminder field. No fixed date is used.

So far, when I set the reminder (notify by) to "Push Notification", this has been coming through OK. SMS or e-mail notifications, however would not always come through.

It has taken me few days to reply to this post as I had to consult my mobile phone company if there's any problem with my phone/SMS services. As a result, they have tested the system and confirmed my network, SMS as well as the device (phone) itself is working properly and no problems were found.

I was scheduled to carry out a staff training in March where I will be presenting/introducing ToDoist, however I have postpone this date as I still need to be sure about few things about this programme. Nonetheless, it is vital for us to have this training by the end of next month.

This is unrelated to notifications however, if I share a "Project" with my assistants, would my assistants be able to see all my other Projects? I'm a PA and I have all my boss's private information/To Do List on some of the other projects and I don't want my assistants to see those.

Also, would they have to have Premium status to "share project" with me or could they be a free user as I'm a Premium member?

Apologies for the number of questions. All your support in this regard is much appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Mari

Mari,

We'll look into this issue and address it as soon as we can.

As for your other question - if you share one project, then the person you share it with will see only this one shared project. Sharing is not a Premium feature so everyone can share any project at any time. However, a free user can only invite 5 people to each of their projects, while a Premium user can invite 25 people to each project.

David

Hi David,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

One final question regarding sharing projects:
Would the shared person require an account (i.e. would my assistant need to create an account?)

One of my assistant is hired as "Temp" and I'm not sure if it's worth making him set up an account if he's only going to be with us for another few weeks. - It's not a big deal if they have to sign up; ToDoist is such an useful programme, I'm sure they'd appreciate it anyway.

Once again, thank you for all your support.

Kind Regards,
Mari

Mari,

Yes, for someone to interact with projects and tasks, they need to have an account.

Brendon.

Hello,

The reminder issue should be fixed in version 3.2.0 released today. Please let us know if it still persists.
