Cannot add Outlook emails as tasks

Once again I cannot add Outlook emails as tasks. The first email was fine this morning. At 7.58am GMT I tried to add a second email as a task and nothing happened. I tried logging out and back in and closing and restarting Outlook but with no success.

In addition, I cannot send tasks via email this morning, (well, I can send them but they are not appearing in the task list) so I have no Outlook functionality :(

Same thing here. Started 10 minutes ago.

Hello,

I can't reproduce this issue. I select an email in Outlook, use "Add email as task", it gets added correctly and points to the correct email in my Inbox.

Next, I've tried to send an email as a task to one of my project - it arrived correctly a few seconds after sending.

Please confirm - are you still experiencing these issues now? Also Andrew, when you say "I tried to add a second email as a task and nothing happened", what exactly do you mean by nothing happened? You select the email and don't see the "Add email as task" link> Or do you see the link, but clicking on it doesn't work? Or does clicking work, but the task is not being saved?

Best regards,
David

In Outlook, if I highlight an email message in my inbox and click on either the Add Todoist button on the Outlook ribbon, or right click on the message and select Add Todoist the new task does not appear in Todoist.

When I say nothing happens when I try to send the task as an email I mean that I can create the email (forward the task to the email address given when I select a project and click on send emails to this project), it gets sent and appears in my sent items, but is not appearing in my task list.

It looks like it is a random issue. For some mails it works and for others it doesn't. Very annoying.

Pascal - can you notice anything different between the mails affected by this issue and those that aren't? Do they have special characters in their subjects, do they have attachments, are they from the same person or the same email account?

Andrew - reg. forwarding, could you please send one email that doesn't get added to your task list to david@doist.io and brendon@doist.io ? Also, try to forward it to a newly created project and see if it helps.

Best regards,
David

I've tried a couple of emails and there seems to be one now which is causing the problems. It has an attachment which is a .txt file. This file is actually an executable saved as a txt file so that anti virus filters don't block it. (It is NOT malicious code). I cannot add this particular one only now as a task either directly or via email. I will forward it to the addresses given.

If it helps, I think I can see one of the problems. If users have a long list of current tasks, and try to add an email as a task, the project selection box is appearing at the top of the list and thus is not visible if the user is looking near the bottom of the list. The project selection box should be programmed to appear in the visible window rather than at the top of the list.

I'm not seeing any specific differences between the mails.

I have the same problem and it started few days ago when I installed one of new plugin versions. I hoped it would be solved in the newest one but unfortunatelly it wasn't. I cannot also point out any specific difference between e-mails that can be added as task and the ones that cannot.

I hope the issue will be resolved soon as it completely blows up my tasking system.

What I see is that when you push the "Email as task" button in the right Todoist frame it works fine.

In my case it doesn't. Ideed the button in the Todoist frame works, but it adds a different e-mail then - usually the previous added one, not the one that is highlighted.

Hello,

Reg. the issue with mails not arriving - unfortunately we may not be able to address it because of the attachments. We don't support them yet and even though in most cases this won't be a problem, sometimes it may. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Reg. the issue with the add email as task function not working correctly - we still can't reproduce it at all.

Paweł, please confirm - you're clicking on one email to select it, then use "Add email as task" within a project, save the task, then click on another message to select it, use "Add email as task" again and then the link will point to the other mail, but have the subject of the second mail or will even the subject be the same?

David

The subject of newly added mail is the same as of the previous one. There is neither the subject nor the link from the highlighted mail.

Pawel,

Are you using Conversation View with your inbox? Also, it appears if you open up the email, so that it has it's own window, that is not supported, though we will look into adding that.

Brendon.

I began to see the same (or at least a related problem) yesterday, and it is continuing today. Todoist will not add an email to Todoist if the email has an attachment. It will if the email has no attachment. The attachments are Word documents. I have not had this problem before yesterday.

Hi

I too am having the same issue but it is erratic which is why you maybe having trouble recreating it. I cant see any rhyme or reason, doesnt appear on face value to be any difference between one email on the next. But on occasion I click add email as task from the right pane (the todoist plug in) and it adds the previously viewed email not the one currently highlighted.

I can go to another email do the same action and it works fine. Go back to that particular mail and it won't work. For me its not attachment related as the particular mail just has text it in it and one image in the sendees signature.

Stuart

Hi

Having the same issue here. Was working perfectly fine before (attachment or no attachment).
I have now in my inbox 11 unread emails (I only display these). 6 of them won't be added as tasks in ToDoIst. Some of them have attachments. Some don't. In the 5 emails I can add, one of them has .pdf and .xls attachements.
Emails come from different persons, all within my organization.
Result is the same whether I am grouping emails per conversation or not...

This is really annoying...

Louis

Hello,

Please tell me - are you clicking on "Quick Add" first, then selecting the email and then use "Add email as task" or first selecting the mail, then clicking on Quick add and then Add email as task?

Also, how fast are you clicking on "Add email as task" after selecting the mail and are you selecting it using arrows or actually clicking on it?

Best regards,
David

I encounter the problem using either method. And timing plays no apparent role. This seems completely random. I can't find a pattern.

Same here.
Either method will randomly not work.
No pattern unfortunately.

With the "Quick Add" method, i actually had a different issue. It proposed me to add as a task a different email than the one selected (either the one just above or just below in my inbox), or an email that I added as a tasks a few days ago :-/
Anyway, result is that for some emails, it does not work.

Regarding my clicking speed, I am not yet superman ;-) Thus I don't expect to beat your code... Especially since I don't do anything faster than when it actually works.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

The adding of wrong emails should be fixed now. You may need to log out and back in again.

Hi,
I am still facing the same problem.. Am using Todoist for Outlook Ver 2.6.4.0 with outlook 2010 on windows 7 64 bit edition..

Issue I am facing are

1. Clicking on Quick add and then "Add email as a task" adds the wrong email.
2. Right Clicking on an email and clicking on "Add Todoist" results in no action.
3. Starting earlier today, also do not see an "Add email as task" link in the Quick add taskbar.

Have tried restarting outlook, restarting windows, logging out and logging back in for todoist but in vain

Whenever, it has worked, it was not consistent. Wish it is as it would solve all my scheduling worries across platforms

I cannot understand it. The problem was solved but with the latest update I installed today it came back :(

Hello Paweł,

The latest update addressed multiple issues that could cause this - the size of the mail, the fact that it has an attachment and its placement in a folder which should fix this issue permanently.

If uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of the app doesn't work, please let us know if there's anything specific in the mails that you can't add to the list and also let us know how exactly can you reproduce this issue - what's the process that you follow and at which point does it fail?

David

There is nothing specific about the emails - some of them have attachments and some don't. I've tried every method of adding an email to todoist. I used Todoist frame and clicked "Add e-mail as task" - then it adds another e-mail as task (the last one added to Todoist). When clicking Add todoist icon on the toolbar there is simply no effect. Right-clicking on an e-mail and choosing "Add todoist" doesn't work either.
