Hello Roy,

Please tell me:
- Are you sure you've logged into the same account on both platforms?
- Does the sync not work at all, not even for the first time or after a certain action (adding a task via Chrome, adding a note etc.)?

You can try to perform a manual sync by tapping on the icon in the top-right corner and choosing "Refresh" from this menu. Let me know if this or reinstalling the app helps.

Best regards,
David

Yes, I am in the same account. I added a task this morning on the phone and it shows up on the web. I added a task on the web and it shows up on the phone. But MANY MANY MANY of the tasks that I added while traveling, sitting on planes, etc on the way home the last few days (which is a fair number of tasks) are not showing up on the web. I logged in and out of the web interface and they are not showing up there. I have clicked the refresh on the app several times.

If I reinstall app which set of tasks shows up? I should not have to reinstall this app over and over or this will be a useless app. I was considering upgrading this app and doing so for our entire company team but can't do so if we are going to encounter ongoing problems

Some other comments quite a number of months ago referenced the sync stalling and not resuming if the one system (i.e. laptop) was offline. Given that I travel and either the phone or laptop are off for extended periods this will not make sense to use the app if that means I will have to reinstall and lose all work over and over

Roy,

Of course you don't have to reinstall the app all the time, I only asked this to rule out a few options which might have caused this. Now that you've said that you have tasks added offline on the phone, please do not reinstall the app as this will clear the cached data.

Considering that it's the web that doesn't display these tasks, have you tried removing Todoist's offline data from your browser? In Chrome it's in the Advanced Settings -> Content settings -> All cookies and site data.

David

No, that doesnt work. Cleared everything and tried it on two separate browsers. Any other ideas? Do I need to log off of the Mobile App? Or will that lose all my data? Or is that what it takes to get everything properly uploaded and synched?? It doesn't seem that it should be this difficult for a sync

Roy,

Please try to log out and back into the mobile app and see if it help.

Again, we're very sorry for the inconvenience, of course this should never happen and syncing should be seamless. We'll surely look into this issue, but please let us know if logging out and back in worked, it will help us identify this issue faster.

David

I have a similar issue, but I haven't found the rule when it happens.
Today I wrote some tasks offline, and online and they are working ok.
But yesterday I wrote some tasks in the phone when I was online, and they don't appear neither the web or another Android device.
I have tried to modify one of then in the phone and then update, but they keep missing in the web.

Could you both - Celita972 and Roy let us know if all the tasks affected by the sync issues had due dates and in what languages are you using Todoist?

Has this been resolved yet?
I keep wondering why, when I review my todo list on my phone on the underground in the evening to check I have done what I'm supposed to, stuff shows up which I somehow missed during the day (when at my computer).
I've just realised that it is because I have tasks (well, at least one task) on my android app which are not showing up on the web app (Chrome) or desktop app (Windows 7).
This only seems to happen intermittently as most of my tasks are created on my phone (Galaxy Note 2 running Jellybean 4.3) whilst on the underground and therefore offline, but most of them sync seamlessly with my computer. I can't see any obvious differences between this one task and all the others I create (I almost always assign a project and a date to all tasks).
I have tried re-syncing/refreshing the android app but it has made no difference.
Please advise.

Hello Patrick,

Unfortunately, the best (and sometimes only way) to identify this issue is to notice the difference between this one task and others or any pattern in this behavior.

That said, is this task in one separate project or sub-project, does it originate from a shared or a private project, is it assigned to someone?

Hi David
The missing task is in a third-level project folder (i.e. main/sub/sub). On my phone, this folder is showing 15 outstanding tasks whereas on the web it is showing just 14.
Most of the tasks, including the missing one, have a due by date (long gone by in the case of the missing task) and were created on my phone whilst disconnected from the internet.
Noe of my task are assigned to anybody else as I have not yet started playing with your newly introduced sharing function.
Many thanks,

Patrick

Patrick,

Have you tried to change this missing task? Edit its name, add a label, priority or move it to a different project, then force a sync (top-right corner -> Refresh)? Let me know if this makes the task appear on the web.

We will also release an update very soon addressing syncing issue.

David

Hi David
Unfortunately, having identified the task as outstanding on my phone I've since dealt with it and marked it as complete, but next time the issue arises and I notice it I will try that and report back. Thanks.

Brendon,
Sorry if I'm being thick but what am I supposed to be updating? Does the android app not update automatically as and when you release new versions?

Patrick,

Yes it can auto update, but your phone would have to be set to allow that to happen.

Hello Patrick,

You can check the version number by going to your phone's Settings -> Apps and selecting the Todoist app. The latest version is 3.1.2. From this menu you can also delete the app and then you could try to reinstall it.

I had similar non-syncing issues today. No consistency or pattern that I can discern so far. Most of the date changes I made via my computer yesterday transferred to the app (3.1.2 version), but one didn't. The task is showing as due tomorrow on the web version, but as 4 days ago on the app version (which was the old due date).
Also I added two tasks from my phone today - to be due today - and neither showed up on the web version. Tasks I added that are due in the future did show up however.
These tasks are going to different project folders.
I am using the English language version.

Please try to reinstall the Android app and see if it helps. If not, please tell me:
- What version of Android are you using?
- Are you using any task killer apps?

David - I reinstalled the app and so far so good. Tasks are translating both ways, but I will keep checking and watching what happens.
I just installed the app about 10 days ago for the first time and everything worked without any problems until, I'd say, Sunday or Monday (2-3 days ago).
I am running 2.2 version of Android and no task killer apps.

Same problem again today - or may have started yesterday evening. Tasks (added and checked as complete) are transferring from phone app to computer-based version, but not the other way around.
Have not tried reinstalling app yet this go-round. But there needs to be an actual solution deciphered regardless.

Polly,

We're sorry to hear that. The most efficient way to fix this is to know how exactly this issue can be triggered. Was there any specific action that caused it, did you use your computer offline and then it started? If there's anything that you suspect could have triggered it (sharing a project, leaving a shared project), please let us know.

David

David - I don't use the shared projects feature at all. I'm not sure what you mean by using the "computer offline" - as in, was I not connected to wifi when I added/completed tasks? That would not be the case - always on wifi with the computer. My phone however goes between using 3G and wifi and sometimes is not on either for a short period.
Currently I cannot think of any pattern that seems to be appearing. The tasks in question from this occurrence of not syncing were added/completed at several different times (3 at least).
Yes it is rather frustrating. Otherwise I have had good experiences using ToDoist (I'm big into lists of all kinds :).
I will not reload the phone app and see if I can decipher any pattern to the problem for a few days.

Polly,

Any information that could help us reproduce this issue would be very helpful :-)

Yes, I meant using the app with the computer being offline, though technically that shouldn't be a problem either as it would sync the next time it can connect.

I will pass along updates. I am going to test a theory that it happens when my phone is offline completely - no 3G, no wifi. And then doesn't seem to be updating when it is back online.
This morning - with wifi for both computer and phone - everything was working.... meaning that new activity was updating; old activity still hadn't synced from yesterday

No issues yesterday. Everything synced fine - even when I added tasks to phone app offline. I will hope for the best! If/when it acts up again, I will post a description.

David -
The sync issues are reoccurring. It is very random. I can not discern any pattern so far as to why some of the changes carry across the different platforms and why some do not. And most of them do, but it is getting aggravating to continually have to double check my do lists between the app and online to make sure I am not forgetting anything that I need to get done. I am not using any complicated functionality other than assigning folders or subfolders to each task and setting due dates either as today or in the future.
Latest issues: There was a task that I updated through the Chrome add-on that did not translate to the phone app - while my phone was using the same wifi connection as my computer. And there were also a couple items that I added from the phone app, that did not show up on the Chrome/online version - while I was away from my computer.

Is there a way to have the various platforms do periodic checks against each other to compare the content and update to the latest changes if the content is found to be different?

Hello Polly,

All our apps, the web-version, desktop apps, mobile apps, plugins and add-ons periodically check for updates all the time. In fact, when the server gets an update, it forces all apps to sync so if you're online, you should see all our apps update automatically upon each change.

We're currently fixing some sync issue on the Android app and there will be an update this week addressing them. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Great news :) Thanks for the status update.
By way of additional information, I will add that reminder notifications that are made via the phone app will trigger the push notifications (per my settings), but reminders set through the Chrome extension or website application are not triggering push notifications to my phone.
Thanks!

Hi,

I'd like to inform you, that I'm experiencing sync issues today on the Android app version 3.2.1.
Is that the version that should contain the fix or is there another one planned for the next days?

The issue is that changes on my phone seem to be correctly synced to the desktop app but not the other way round. As far as I remember, most of the affected tasks were changed on on my desktop while being online. This morning I did some other changes on my phone (after realizing that not everything was up-to-date), which were correctly transfered to the desktop.

Best Regards
Dustin

Then I logged out from todoist on the device and logged in again - et violá, it's synced.

Hi,

I just had this issue for the first time. Created and marked complete tasks on web (Firefox) that did not get synced to my phone. I logged out of the app but now I am for some reason unable to log back in. ("An unknown error occurred. Please try back in again in a moment.")

Going to uninstall and reinstall the app to see if that fixes things.

Hello David -
Still having occasional - seemingly very random - non-syncing problems. I am using the Chrome extension and app on Android 2.3. So far the non-sync incidents seem to only be occurring when I make a change (mainly marking a task as complete) via the extension and then it doesn't show up in the phone. I have left those tasks in my Todoist list on the phone app for days to see if they ever update and disappear, but that has not happened. Again, this issue is sporadic (still annoying however).

Hello Polly,

Please clarify, what extension are you referring to? On Android, we offer one app which you can get from https://todoist.com/android and it's a native app not linked to Chrome in any way. Let us know which version of our Android app are you using.

Today I've seen some sync issues on Android.

Some recurring tasks are shown as days old - as if them being cossed off on the web version has not made it as a message to the andorid version. Logging out and back in again has got the two back in sync.

Same problem here. I flew from Belgium (where everything was synched) to Sweden (where nothing has updated on the computer since my arrival 3 days ago).

I have tried pressing the three dots and "refresh" several times (it would be better perhaps to call it "update computer") with no effect.

I am not keen to delete all the cookies on my computer since that has consequences far beyond Todoist. If you can tell me which cookies you put onto my machine I can delete them.

I am not keen to reinstall Todoist on my Android phone because that will mean I have to retype all my to-do lists, I guess.
