Automatic reminders

DR

Is there any way to stop the (relatively new?) automatic addition of reminders to tasks other than the complete disabling of all notifications in Settings? (I like the daily review feature, so I'd rather not completely kill all notifications.)

I have task reminders turned off, yet if I add or modify a time-specific task, it will still add a reminder, which I do not want. What am I doing wrong?

Hi David,

If you add a task with a due date such as "everyday at 2pm" a default reminder will be added, which is 30 minutes before. It has been this way for a long time. If you don't want a default reminder, you can go into Todoist.com, settings, Reminders. Under default reminder, change it to none.

Regards,
Brendon.

I have the default reminder set to 'none'. And I just added a test task (via Android app) and the reminder still got added. (App settings: Notifications are on, but task reminders are off)

David,

I will pass this to the developers as if the Reminders are turned off within the app, they should not be going off.

Please tell me, which version of Android are you running, and have you updated to the latest version, which was just released? This had addressed a few reminder issues.

Regards,
Brendon.

Android 4.4.2, and yes, it's the latest Todoist update (thanks for the quick work on the reordering thing!). Another note--I'm not sure if the reminders are going off or not; the problem was them being created automatically in the first place.

David,

I will ask the devs if on Android if they are supposed to not be added when created there.

Brendon.

David,

Yes, it appears that on the Android version, if the reminder is created there, the default reminder can't be turned off.

Thanks,
Brendon.

David,

I was wrong. There have been many changes to the apps and so it was a setting that was not well known yet.

Open up the Android app, top right corner, Settings. then Todoist, and there is a Default Reminder menu item, and then choose "No Default".

Thanks,
Brendon.

That setting has been chosen, and the automatic reminders are still added--which is the whole problem, in a nutshell.

This might be helpful: I just added a test task, and went to the reminder tab of the task. The automatically created reminder type was "other", and when I attempted to edit the reminder, the app crashed. I repeated the process and it consistently caused a crash.

Another detail that might be helpful: the "Added automatic reminder." screen notification appears the moment I type the '@' symbol...but prior to a time being entered. This seems odd, and maybe relevant.

David,

Thanks. Please tell me, which Android device are you using? I will pass this to the devs.

Is it possible to get automatic reminders for events that have a due date but no time via push notifications?

Hi Jon,

You can edit a task to add a reminder, even if it does not have a due time. On the web version, just right click and go to the Reminders menu. Of course, it does not allow relative reminders.

Brendon

I know. I am asking if there is a way to have it automatically notify you like other todo list software programs do. Having to set both the date and then a reminderr is annoying.

Jon,

No, without adding a due time, there are no automatic reminders, but we will consider that in the future,.

Brendon.

Hi Brendon. I too find the need to have an automatic reminder for tasks without due time. Better if I would be able to have a setting for the exact hour at which all tasks without time will be reminded, just like the now defunct Astrid could do. This would help greatly. Thanks.

I agree! The time requirement is unnecessary in my opinion.
