sms reminders?

L

Hi,

I am on a premium trial and I was excited to upgrade when I realized yesterday that the sms function has stopped working.

I am not sure what the problem is.

Please look into it as no SMS reminder would be a deal breaker for me.

Thanks,
Luke

Hello Luke,

Please go to the Settings -> Reminders, use "Edit" next to your phone number and while in edit mode, select one of the Canadian numbers from the "Number to send from" drop-down menu and if this won't help, send your full phone number to david@doist.io

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

I initially picked one of the Canadian numbers and it was working fine.

Even now, when I send a test SMS from the same number I receive it instantly, but the reminders don't seem to go through.

Thanks,
Luke

Luke,

Please let me know what exact due date and time does the task and the reminder have. The "send a test" feature uses the exact same process the reminder feature does and sends a regular reminder to you automatically set to the current time.

David

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply.

It seems to be working erratically. For example, today I had four reminders for 10 am (gmt + 5.5), I received only 2 out of 4 via sms reminder half an hour before.

Just to clarify that I am referring to the automatic sms reminders sent half an hour before due time and not the manually set sms reminders.

- Do recurring reminders have sms notifications too?
- If I postpone a reminder, do I receive a notification by sms half an hour before the due time after postponing?

Thanks,
Luke

Luke,

I'm sorry, but I'll have to ask again - what were the exact due dates you've used with your tasks. This is very important as it will allow us to at least try to reproduce this issue. There are multiple different formats you can use and knowing what exactly did you type into the date filed would be very helpful. Was it "today at 10am" or "today @ 10 am" or "every day @ 10:00"?

Now, to answer your questions:
- Recurring tasks get recurring reminders. If a reminder is recurring, but the task not, you will not get multiple notifications. For example - a task set to "every day at 10am" will get a default reminder each day 30 minutes before the deadline; a task set to "today" with a non-default absolute reminder set to "every day at 10am" will not generate multiple reminders if you complete this task.
- No, you shouldn't get it in such case.

Also, please clarify what are you referring to as "reminders" and "notifications" - these are the same thing. A task can have a reminder which you can receive via email, SMS or push notification depending on your settings. There is no separation between a reminder and a notification.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for the response.

It seems to be working fine lately but what I've just noticed is that recurring tasks don't seem to have an sms reminder sent 30 minutes prior. I had 3 tasks today for 10 am (+5.5). Two of the tasks were set to "today @ 10am" while another task was set to "every 2 days @ 10 am", for the recurring task I did not receive a reminder at 9.30 am.

Also, when I say notification and reminder I am referring to the same thing, sorry about the confusion.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Luke

Luke,

Please tell me - did you go to the Reminders section of the recurring task and checked if the reminder is actually set for this task? Also, did you add the date and time to the task once it was already created or right-away while adding the task?

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

Thanks for the quick response.

When I goto the reminders section of recurring task it says '30 minutes SMS'

I added the date and time right away when adding the task'.

Luke

Luke,

Please let me know if the issue still persists today as we've made some changes now. Also, let me know if setting an email reminder to a task with the same due date and time works.

Best regards,
David

That same reminder will be recurring tomorrow. I will let you know whether I receive the reminder or not. Thanks for your help.

I have a similar problem. I am a new Premium user. My default reminder is SMS. In addition, I have set a couple of reminders on tasks that don't have specific due dates. I have not received any of the SMS reminders. The test SMS works just fine. But none of the actual Reminder SMS have worked yet.

I should also state that when I add my phone number and send the test SMS, I receive an error code on the screen, that says "ok" and also says that I should try adding a country code, but the test SMS still goes through. Even when I do add my country code, I still get the same error message being displayed.

Hello,

Please let us know what's the exact due date and time of the task and/or reminder.

They have already past. One task didn't have a due date, but I had set a reminder for yesterday, Friday, 7/11, at 1:30pm. The other task had a due date of yesterday, 7/11, at 5:00pm. I didn't set a specific reminder, but I also didn't receive the default 30 mins prior reminder.

So, you have typed exactly:

7/11, at 1:30pm

into the reminder menu? If so, please try not to use a comma between the date and "at" and let me know if it works.

Alternatively, try to enter a reminder with this date: "today @ 7pm" (or any time in near future) and if that fails too, I'll pass it to our developers.

When I originally set the reminder I did it as "today @ 1:30pm" It accepted is fine and the little reminder icon showed up next to the task. But didn't get the reminder.

I'll pass it to the developers now and we'll look into it.

We have sent a test through our new system and you should receive a message with the content:

"Todoist SMS reminders work! Remember if your task is due "today at 10am" Todoist will send a reminder 30 minutes before this deadline!"

Please confirm:
- Did you receive this message?
- If so, do reminders work now for you?

David

I did receive the test message that you referred to. I actually received it twice. Once yesterday and once today. I set up a test task for today at 12:30pm. I did this at 11:45am. I created a specific time reminder. I didn't receive that reminder an I didn't receive the default 30 mins prior reminder.
