comments problem

K

when sharing projects, i have this major issue with commenting on tasks: whenever someone comments on a task in a project THEY created, the comment isn't visible to other members. in maybe 1 or 2 cases it was, but i couldn't tell how. the checkbox "notify xy about my comment" was always checked.
it works in the other way round (comments of other people in my project do appear to me) but i guess it's not supposed to be this way right??

Hello Katja,

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this issue.

Please provide the exact details of the circumstances in which this happens including:
- On what platforms does it happen?
- If on the web - which browsers?
- Are these parent projects or sub-project?
- Does the project creator invited everyone or did other people that joined it then invited third-parties to it?
- Does it happen when both have the comment box opened or does it affect even the comment count when the box is closed?

Best regards,
David

Hello I'm having exactly the same issue. I have my account open in Safari, The other user has account open in Chrome. We have the same domain name and we're both signed in through Google business apps.
I created a project with two tasks and invited the second user to the project. When they accepted they could see both the tasks. They commented on it, I could see it. I commented on it again - but only I can see my comment.
I created another tasks and a sub task. Only I can see both of them
They created a task, I can see it alright
We have tried refreshing, logging out and back in again but nothing is showing for the other user that I created since they joined my project - but I can see everything they have done.
We repeated the problem the other way around. The other user created a project. They can see my comments and their own. I can only see my own.
We both have different comment counts when the box is closed.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your report, I'm passing it now to the developers.

In the meantime, please ask the other users to leave the project and then invite them again and let me know if the issue persists.

Best regards,
David

Looks if person X is not checked in the notify list he won't see the comment.

1. Is this by design? Through "Notify about my comment" you also understand "Give rights to see my comment"?

2. Also, if person Y was later added to a project, he won't see the comments that was previously added to tasks? (Obviously he was not on "notify" list of the comment when the comment was made since he wasn't added to the project at that point).

I'm using the app on Windows 8 desktop, nothing special related to a certain app or platform.

Is there a way to privately send you the details of a bug related to this?

I have a project shared with two persons.
One task has 5 comments. I can see all the 5 tasks (I created the project, maybe that is the reason).
One of the coworkers sees just 2 tasks (out of 5) and the other 3 tasks (out of 5).

I assume this is a bug and not by design. I can point you the task if you contact me privately.

And we also waited about 12 hours, to make sure it's not some cache on your side.

Nope, same limited comments view for my coworkers.

Hello Adrian,

You don't have to notify anyone about the comment for them to see it. In fact, I've just checked it on multiple accounts with multiple tasks under different circumstances and I couldn't reproduce this issue even once :(

You can contact us directly at david@doist.io and brendon@doist.io Any details would be appreciated incl.:
- Did the invited people already have Todoist accounts at the time you've invited them?
- On what platforms does this happen?

Best regards,
David

We started to prepare screenshots from various platforms, but task has been marked as completed in the meanwhile and my colleague marked it as uncompleted in order to see it on android in order to make a screenshot on the phone.

Guess what?

We just lost all 5 comments, I can't them anymore, no one can. Looks like data is lost.
A new test comment was added in the meanwhile.

Looks like you're losing data. This is a show stopper.

See project /app?v=204#project/110953560 - the blue task.

Yeah, this continues. I got all 6 comments visible now (after some minutes), one of my colleagues sees 4.

Here's the task:

See project /app?v=204#project/110953560 - the blue task.

Do you need anything more from me?

Adrian,

We can't access and see your tasks or projects. That said, please make sure that it's not a caching issue (have you tried another browser?). Can you retrieve the comments from a backup (if any of your collaborators in these projects have Premium accounts)?

Best regards,
David

And now we're back to one comment.

Refresh doesn't help, nor other stuff.

I have sent you details and screenshots to email, but your app is really unreliable if that appears and disappears randomly. Good thing we're testing the free version and we can move to another reliable todo app anytime.

Adrian,

We're very sorry for the inconvenience. Reliability is our absolute top priority and something that was never an issue for the past 7 years since Todoist was created. This is a very serious issue which we're looking into right now and can assure you that it will be fixed as soon as possible and never occur.

Thank you for the screenshots. I see that the task you're referring to was completed. Was it completed or un-completed at any point before or as this issue occurred?

Best regards,
David

Hi,

It started before task was marked as completed:

My two colleagues could see all the comments, even if they tried:
- logout / login
- clear cache and cookies
- different browser
- mobile client (besides desktop browser)
- waited ~12 hours for some cache to propagate

Nothing would help.

Then, after task was completed (not sure if that is related), we added another comment and more strange behavior was in: all of us started seeing just that 1 comment (though there were a total of 6 comments).

Then I would radomly see 1 comment, 6 comments, 1 comment ...
Now things look stabilized to 6 comments for me, but my colleagues still see less than 6 comments. They just don't see some of the comments.

Hello,

Not fixed:

I am seeing:
- 6 comments in web site via Chrome Version 32.0.1700.102 m, Windows 8.1 up to date
- 6 comments in chrome plugin, Windows 8.1 up to date
- 6 comments in the iphone app. iPhone 5, latest iOS

There are 6 comments indeed.
I have also cleared the cache and cookies in my browser, just in case.
My colleague continue to not see all comments:

Iulian is seeing 1 comment in Firefox 26.0 and Chrome 32.0.1700.102 m, on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1, up to date. Clear cache and cookies, relogin did not help.

Ionut is seeeing:
- 4 comments on Android 4.4.2, on phone. Before he cleared cache and relogin on Android he was seeing 1 comment (and he has been seeing just 1 comment for the last 24 hours or so)
- 4 comments in Firefox 26.0, on ArchLinux
- 4 comments in Chromium 32.0.1700.77, on ArchLinux

No problem to offer you our accounts login details for debugging. Let me know.

Should this fix also work for our specific comments on the task?
Because it doesn't.

Adrian,

Assuming that you're using a new project now, all comments in it should now be fixed. Although the current fix addressed multiple issues which should apply to existing comments as well, it's strongly advised to use a new task to test it. That said, please confirm, did you try it in a new task?

David
