Retrieve vanished task?
I had added a task with notes on my iPad but didn't see it in Firefox. When I checked my iPad I briefly saw the task before it was removed after syncing. I really need the notes I made there! Is there a way to retrieve this task?
Each change made offline should be cached in each app and synced whenever there's an internet connection. That said, please try to access your account from a different browser or through Firefox's "Private Window" to make sure it's not a local caching issue and the data is already on the server.
Thank you for the answer. I tried Safari and Chrome already to no avail. And Firefox's Private Window displays the same.
But I made the original addition in the Todoist app on my iPad. If it is cached locally somewhere, it would be on the iPad (although the device was connected to the internet at all times). An idea how I can retrieve the data on an iPad?
(and any idea why the task was removed from the iPad rather than added to the database?)
I was suggesting to check the browser in case the task actually was synced and then for some reason removed from the iPad, but it seems not to be the case.
I'm unsure how and why this could happen. Even though we've experienced some sync issues yesterday (did you add it yesterday?), it's all fixed now, but even tasks added or modified during this time should be synced (and have been on our test accounts and other users' accounts).
Please try to search on the iPad for any property of this task - its date or label and see if you can find it this way.
I added the task and its many notes on Wednesday afternoon (in Belgium). I can't find it on the iPad. I don't think it was ever synced with the browser. Is there any way to retrieve a removed task on the iPad?
We're very sorry for the inconvenience, but this may unfortunately not be possible. We're unsure how this could happen as our system is built with data safety as a top priority and everything unsynced should sync whenever it can, but never delete itself.
We suspect the sync issues caused by the overload on our Todoist Next launch could cause the app to think the data is synced and at the same time sync the state that doesn't contain it to your iPad. We will continue investigating this issue to make sure it can never happen again :(
The only last thing you could try would be to get a backup file from the web (Settings -> Backups) and see if maybe at some point the data did reach the server and it got backed up.
Thanks for the tip. I didn't find the notes in the backups. But it's good to know that they exist.
I'll continue using Todoist for now. I really love it. But it will be a while before I trust it again with vital data, I'm afraid.
Maybe future transition moments such as launches need to be planned with (even) more precautions against data loss.
(that seems more important to me than fancy interface features)
