Adding Email to Todoist when opened in new window or tab

EM

I understand that Todoist cannot add a task in Gmail when using the Preview Pane feature. The unique url is needed, and so the plugin doesn't even show up.

However, when I open a message in a separate tab or window, the plugin does show up, and it even allows me to add the email to a task or my inbox. However, when I click on the link in the task the page never loads.

I'm not sure if you will be able to access this at all since it's from my Gmail account, but here is the url that is created when I view the email in a separate window. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&view=btop&ver=1pxvtfa3uo81z&search=inbox&th=143bca7ddc99543f&cvid=3

Hi Earle,

So you have Preview pane enabled while you have an email open in a new window? It allows you to add it as a task? That is new information for the plugin.

So the link opens a page but does not load, or the link does nothing at all?

Unfortunately, I am not sure if this fixable, as it seems like it's a glitch, as it should not work with Preview Pane enabled.

Regards,
Brendon.

Yes, Brendon, even with Preview Pane enabled, if I command-click an email to open it in a separate tab, the "TD Add" plugin appears. (e.g. the email I got with your response opened in a tab with the following url: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&view=btop&ver=1pxvtfa3uo81z&search=inbox&th=143bcce5e84852be&cvid=1)

And yes, the link from within Todoist will open a page, but the message does not load. What I just noticed is that the url, if copied and pasted into a new window or tab, does not open up that email message. This is even without making it a TD task, but just copying the link in Chrome and pasting it into a new window.

So it seems the TD plugin is doing its job, it's just that the gmail message's unique url doesn't quite work. In fact, if I open a message in a new window, whether Preview Pane is enabled or not, the url is not usable. I will contact Gmail to report this. If they can somehow make it so that the message opened up in a new tab has the unique url for that email, then it could work. This could be a workaround for people like myself who like Preview Pane. If we want to send it to Todoist, we can just open the message in a new tab.

If I learn anything from Gmail I will keep you informed.
