Outlook Email Link

J

Is there anyway to get Outlook email links to work across computers? If I add an email on my work machine the link does not work on my home machine. If I add the email on my home machine it does not work on my work machine. Anyway to make it not machine dependent?

I regularly work from both computers, having my email links in todoist work on both machines would be excellent. Similarly, anyway to have the link not break if an email is moved to a new folder? Needs better integration for being billed as "The best free Outlook to-do list and task list app".

Thank you!

Hello JT,

Unfortunately, that won't be possible. The links point directly to a message with a certain ID within Outlook. If this message is present - it will be opened, if it's not as you try to click on the link on a computer without this message there, there's no way it can open a non-existing message.

If you don't mind not having links to these messages, but instead see the entire message content and be able to read the content everywhere, then instead of linking mails to tasks with our plugin, you can send them to Todoist via email. For more information right-click on a project and choose "Email tasks to this project".

Reg. links being broken after the message has been moved - this will be fixed in the next update of our plugin.

Best regards,
David

Good to hear on the plug-in update for emails that are moved. That will be a big improvement in my usage!

I unfortunately can not put the email contents into the tool due to a number of work related reasons, but the email into a project feature is something that would be great to use.

Regarding the email ID. I have Outlook installed on both machines, both sync the same data files so it should be exactly the same. Would the email ID's be different even though it it the exact same data file (.pst, .ost. or whatever)? Perhaps this is something that will start working with the plugin update that will resolved the folder changing.

JT,

If the data is identical, then I also suspect that this will be solved once the issue reg. moving emails breaking the link is fixed.

We can't say for sure, but it shouldn't take more than a few weeks at this point.

I am facing a similar problem. At work I use my IMAP account with Outlook (because I have to) and at home the same IMAP account with Thunderbird.
Doesn't every E-Mail have a Message-ID that could be used to identify the correct mail independent of the mail storage and client?

I really like the idea of mail integration of Todoist because uploading mail contents to Todoist or any other cloud service is not an option for confidentiality reasons. But of course there is still room for improvement in the implementation.

Best Regards,
Tilmann

Since the update to Todoist Next the Outlook Email link is no longer working. It gives the following error:

"TypeError: Unable to get value of the property 'openmail': object is null or undefined".

Thanks.

Any ETA on the Outlook plugin update? Does it auto update or will we need to watch for something to be released and then install manually?

Tried it with same result. The interseting thing is that both links look nearly the same and both emails that have been linked are available in the same outlook folder.

Hello Tilmann,

We're unsure what is causing this at this point :-( This issue should be fixed already in the latest version Brendon mentioned and it seems to be fixed for the majority of cases.

How old are the link you're referring to? A few days or weeks old or more than a year?

Best regards,
David

Are the installs posted above the official install from the main website at this point? To fix the link issue, should I use the main install or one posted above in this thread?

Thank you!

Right now, the link posted above is the latest version and also the same as the one that's already published (in fact, it's even the same URL on https://todoist.com/outlook ). In these version, based on other reports, this issue no longer occurs and we can no longer reproduce it.

David

Thanks @Brandon. Except the behavior that I see is that it starts to search (what appears to be) many different shared folder or mailbox locations? Is there a way to see or edit the search locations? - thanks

No, at this time there aren't any way to customize what it searches.

ok. However, could you tell me what it is actually searching? This way I can either remove or disable some accounts / folders - thus enabling a much more defined and narrow search.

thanks

Jorge
