Add Email as Task
Hi - I previously had the Link Email functionality in Outlook which allowed me to right click on emails to add to a task within the right hand window pane within my Mail folder.
This has now gone and despite reloading/deleting/reloading the app it still doesn't work - the right click option doesn't show to link emails and Todoist doesn't show in the right hand pane.
The app appears to have downloaded OK and sits within C:/Programs. 2 apps currently within this folder are labeled Todoist (58.6mb) & OutlookTodoistADX (7.27mb).
How can I fix this?
Please clarify - what you can't access anymore is the right-click option when clicking on a project within Todoist that shows you the box with the email address to which you can sent emails as tasks or the right pane of the Outlook plugin itself.
To access the email address of a project, you can go to https://todoist.com right-click on a project, choose "Email tasks to this project" and use this email address to forward messages without the Outlook plugin.
As for the plugin, please delete it via Control Panel -> Programs & Features (it's listed as OutlookTodoist) and then download and install the latest version from https://todoist.com/outlook and see if it helps.
I deleted the plug-in again and re-installed as instructed, however it's still not working. To help clarify:
- the re-installed plug-in shows up correctly under Control Panel -> Programs & Features,
-Todoist still doesn't show as an option within the right pane of Outlook
-If I right click on an email within Outlook the option to add to Todoist doesn't show either
- Going online and opening up my Todoist tasks I also don't have the option anywhere to 'add email as task' option - including within the 'Add task' quick link (top right). So I don't get the options described at: https://todoist.com/blog/2013/01/zero-inbox-policy-with-todoist/
So while it all worked fine previously, in short I now don't have the option to link an email to todoist either directly within Outlook - or within Todoist online itself. FYI - I'd tried re-installing the plug in 2-3 times previously - including rebooting - the result was the same as described above.
My IT dept had removed a couple of viruses from my computer earlier in the week and tightened up on security - however I don't envisage that would have had an affect given the plug-in shows up as installed within the Control Panel.
Being a Premium member this facility is one of the main functions I value. What else can I try? Thx.
There was no option to add an email as a task by right-clicking on the email within Outlook. To add a task like this, you have to highlight the email and then, within the Todoist for Outlook plugin pane, use the "Add email as task" link which only shows up when a message is selected.
Please clarify the "Todoist still doesn't show as an option within the right pane of Outlook" part. When you open Outlook, do you see the Todoist pane on the right, but not the option to add an email as task or is there no Todoist pane at all?
Assuming that you don't see the right pane at all, please go to Outlook's Options -> Add-ins, click on "Go" at the bottom next to "COM Add-ins" and check the box next to OutlookTodoist on this list. This should activate the pane.
I can now see the Todoist Pane on the right when I open Outlook. However it hasn't imported my existing tasks. Instead it has a message 'Add your first project now'. Is there a way of setting this to synch & show my existing tasks?
PS. Regards the above comment 'There was no option to add an email as a task by right-clicking on the email within Outlook.' I do have this functionality back now - I can right click on an email (in its unopened state) and 3rd from bottom have the option 'Add Todoist'.
If you see "Add your first project" now, then you have most likely logged into a different Todoist account either using a different email address or a different sign-in method (Google Login instead of manual login or vice-versa). Please make sure that you always log in the same way as you do on all other platforms.
Reg. the "Add Todoist" option, what version of Outlook and of our plugin are you using?
If I'm logged into a different version of the Todoist plug in within Outlook can you please guide me how to change this so it shows my full task list similar to when I view my account via the Chrome extension button & online tab.
I can't find a way to change this from the Outlook plug in (it has one clickable link 'Show Menu' which doesn't have account details under this. It only has links for 'today' 7days' 'more' & 'add project'). Also when I go to my account online and click 'Settings' again I don't see any option to change my Outlook plug in login details.
Can you please point me in the right direction. Thx

I've got 2 Todoist programs installed (checked via Control Panel):
Todoist version 18.104.22.168 58.6mb
Outlook Todoist ADX version 22.214.171.124
I'm not sure what version of Outloook I'm on - it's Microsoft Exchange & I have the MS Office Professional Plus 2010 installed on my work PC.
Please click on the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Outlook plugin and choose "logout" from the drop-down menu. After that, you'll be able to get back to the login page and then log in using the same credentials and method you use when you log in via Chrome or any other platform.
Thx David - My plug-in doesn't show a gear icon top right, hence my not knowing to click there. However after reading your message I hovered my mouse there and a 'Settings' pop-up box appeared. So all sorted now. Thanks for your help.
Hi, I had issues with the Outlook plug-in. Error messages kept popping up saying that ToDoist fired an exception. Also I did see the link in the TD panel to add email as task link. I re-downloaded the Outlook app from the current webpage and reinstalled. The error messages stopped :) But I was still not getting the link in the TD panel to add email as task.
I searched the forums and read this post. I went back to Outlook for a second when a ToDoist button up in the ribbon caught my eye. I guess since I usually use the compacted view in Outlook because I have a 15' touch screen. I clicked on the message I wanted to generate a task from, then clicked the button in the ribbon. A dialog box popped up with the option to create task from email. Once I clicked that option, the ToDoist add-task fill form popped up and the link in the ToDoist panel appeared.
TL;DR: Downloaded app again from this website & re-installed Outlook TD app. Check the ribbon for the ToDoist button. Select the message you wish to generate a task from and click the button in the ribbon. Add task and save. The link showed up in the TD panel afterwards :)
