Sorting Broken after Switching Back and Forth on PCs

I'd like any tips to restore sorting. This weekend I was working on a PC laptop and sorting was screwy, so I deleted the cache and offline data and that seemed to straighten it out.

Now I'm back on my MacBook and I've got the same issue. However, the cure of deleting offline and cache hasn't fixed things. I've gone into each project, sorted by priority and then date (which sometimes helps) - no good.

I've not manually moved anything, or used other devices. All my P2s are after the P3s, and other things are mixed in. Tips?

Hello Mark,

Please clarify - how exactly is the sort order broken? Are you referring to tasks within a project, in the 7 days view, labels view, which tasks are out of order?

The only sorting-related issue we're aware of is one that affects the 7 days view and changes the order of tasks by priority. Unfortunately, we can't identify what's causing this issue until we find out what's triggering it in the first place.

If that's the issue you're referring to, please try to manually reorder these tasks via drag & drop and the new order should be saved.

Best regards,
David

It's broken in the today view, and the 7 day view.

For today, it's almost perfectly sorted P1, P3, P2 - I may have dragged one or two things by now. Most future day are ok, but Saturday have P1s and P2 mixed up - recurring tasks.

Only happened after I accessed my Windows laptop which I hadn't used in a week.

Mark,

Please tell me, do you remember when exactly this started to happen? As I've said, although we did receive past reports about such issue, we still can't identify its cause - the action that would trigger it for the first time? If you've accessed Todoist on your laptop, were you using the web version or the Windows app?

David

Yes, believe me I'd like to help you out with any debugging. I like your product and would like to help you perfect it.

I recall something like this happening a few months back - and having been fixed.

As close as I can recall, here's what happened:

- I installed the new gmail plugin sometime last week - no issues
- Sometime last Friday I had the sorting issue on Firefox Mac. I may have used my ipad version in the meantime, as I had a low battery.
- I cleared the cache and offline data and everything was fine.
- On Saturday I used my windows laptop (Firefox) and had the sorting issue (hadn't used in a week). I tried the cache and offline data fix but this time it didn't seem to clear it up.

Then yesterday I switched back to Mac Firefox and had the issue I couldn't correct. I did clear the gmail offline data too, but I the issue is still there. I have not used any other devices today, but clearing the cache, offline data, etc. hasn't cured it, which is when I left the post.

Mark,

Thank you for this information. So far it would seem that it's triggered whenever you use Firefox or if you access your list from a platform you haven't used for a while and therefore - with an older state of your tasks being cached.

We hope it'll help us finally find the cause of this issue, I'll pass this info to the developers.

David

Thanks David.

As additional data...yesterday I went in and manually pulled all the P2 between the P1s and P3s. Last night I switch to my Windows laptop (FF). I wasn't paying attention to ToDoist, but it was open in a tab.

This morning, back on Mac FF, the P3s were between the P1s and P2s again. Clear the cache, etc. didn't fix it so I manually re-ordered them again.

This issue keeps surfacing for me. Do you guys have any fixes - for the symptoms, not the problem? I've deleted cache and offline data, and it doesn't fix the sort order.

Mark,

We do not have any concrete fixes at this time, but we are looking into it, as we always have, and with new information, we hope to find something soon.

Regards,
Brendon.

I appreciate that you and the team there are always so incredibly responsive. However, what I am asking for is instructions for clearing the cache and offline data or my machines (and possibly iOS devices) - it that the recommended solution? Or, is it better to manually resort the errant tasks?

I don't know how it happened again this time, but I think it may have been after using a different machine and browser that hadn't accessed TodDoist in about a week....

Hello Mark,

In Firefox, you can clear the cache in Options -> Advanced -> Network. Aside from the cache, you can also clear Todoist's offline data then. It's advised to reload the browser after that.

On iOS, you'll have to delete and reinstall the app to clear its cache as there's no option to do this manually.

If this won't help, we do recommend to manually resort these tasks.

David
