App crashes on one device

R

Hi,

you almost got me. I was just about to upgrade from my iPhone 4s iOS 7.0.3 and clicked "Go premium". During the following pause/waiting time the app crashed.

Since then the app can't be used anymore because as soon as the startup screen appears the app immediately stops again and I return to the home screen.

On my second iPhone 4 iOS 7.0.3 it still works and on my ipad 2 with 7.0.3 as well.

On the wrong working iPhone 4s I removed the App and also restarted the iPhone, then reinstalled the app ... but it still crashed!!

I'd love to use Todoist, but i can't! And to be honest, i need a system I can trust.

Please help.

Best regards,
Ragnar

Hello Ragnar,

We're sorry to hear that, this is the first report of such issue and we can't reproduce it. Even if if would be a glitch, deleting the app, restarting the phone and reinstalling should have certainly helped.

How exactly does it crash? Does it reboot your phone, just stop, show any error messages? You tap on the TD icon and it crashes immediately or do you see anything before that - a loading screen, a blank screen? Any details would be helpful.

Best regards,
David

when i clicked "Go premium" it started loading something and the after some time (felt like stalling) the App just stopped and I returned to my Home screen.

Since then, when I start the App I see the start screen ("nothing to do today") and after about 1 second it stops and I return to the home screen. After the reinstalle it's almost the same, only the screen I see for 1 second is the login screen as I'm not logged in any more since reinstall (of course).

Strange that I can't make it work... and on my other devices is all ok. But it's the first device where I really need it...

Ragnar,

This sounds exactly as a bug we've had in one earlier version of our app. Please tell me - what exact version of the app is being installed on this device?

It's sometimes possible that if you redownload an app that you've already had through the App Store, it may install an earlier version of it from the cloud and then later check for updates so please double-check if you have the latest version of Todoist.

David

1) How canI check the version, when I can't start the App? The App-Store App doesn't show an outstanding update.

2) According to the App-Store App the latest Update is form 23. Okt. My very first Installation was after that, so it might be unlikely that I have ever had an old version. Right?

Ragnar,

The version of an app can be checked without accessing it by going to your phone's Settings -> General -> Usage and tapping on the name of the app (same place where you would want to delete it) - you'll see its name, version number and size there.

We're unsure how can this issue recur in this version, is your phone in any way jailbroken? If not, the way the issue occurred in the past was related to the "No task for today, enjoy your evening" picture we display when there are no tasks for today and it stopped if there were tasks due today. That said, could you please add one task due today through the web and then launch the app and see if the issue persists? This would help us identify this issue and see if it's related to the bug from the past.

Best regards,
David

Thanks for the Tip. The software version is 7.0.3 (like iOS).

I had already one task for today. As suggested I removed it >> App didn't start. Then I added one task for today >> App didn't start.
However, as I'm no longer logged in since the reinstall that can't have any effect, right?

Any more ideas?

No, it's not jailbroken and never was.

The version, which is working fine on my other device (iPhone 4, iOS 7.0.3) has also software version 7.0.3.

Ragnar,

I will pass this issue to the developers. Could you please also tell me:
- Are you online or offline when this happens? When online - via WiFi or a mobile network?
- If you're on WiFi, are you in a corporate network?

Best regards,
David

It happens anywhere.

I tried the following settings:
- 3G
- WIFI at home (not corporate)
- airplane mode

No difference, always crashes.

I found a way to fix the problem - I just restored my iPhone from a one week old backup. Besides I lost the data of all non-cloud apps .. Todoist works again!

To prevent getting the same problem again, I upgraded to premium this time not from the phone but on your website.

Thanks for the support and good luck to find the error. Don't want to experience this again.
