I have version 2.2.0 of the Outlook addin. After creating a task using the Add Todoist button, the link in the resulting task does not evoke the corresponding email message.
Clarifying... Nothing happens when I click the link in task that is in the Outlook addin window.
Please try to delete the plugin (OutlookTodoist in Programs & Features) and install this version instead: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/27d69392edce0cbd2d7128b9c74d070d/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.exe and see if the issue persists.
If it does, please tell me:
- Are you using an Exchange server?
- Do you keep the linked message in the same folder after linking it or move it to a different folder?
Issue persists after uninstalling and then updating to the software version you linked to.
My company does use Exchange.
I typically move the message to a different folder, assigning to a task in inbox, but then archiving the message. It takes more steps if I need to first navigate to the archive folder before I add the email as a task.
Unfortunately if the listed version above has not helped we do not currently have a solution (besides, clearing the cache for IE). We are working on a complete re-write of our plugin to resolve this issue among other issues. We are hoping to have it released in the next week or two.

I just installed the addin today so I'm assuming that it is the current version that is referenced above. However, the links seem to work as long as the email remains in the same folder that it was linked from. Once it is moved to another folder then the link no longer works and does not give any feedback as to why. This isn't very useful as the most common workflow is to "add email as task" while it is still in the inbox, move it to a folder, and use the link to follow up later. If this key workflow doesn't work then I don't see much value in the feature.
Am I correct that I'm running the latest version if I downloaded it from the main website's link today?
This is indeed the issue that's in the latest version of our plugin. It's been fixed in the old version, but the older version contains a critical bug causing drafts to be sent out from your draft folder automatically.
We're still working on a full rewrite of our plugin which will address all issues, but if you never save drafts in Outlook, you can try using the old version which will remember the linked emails even if you move them to a different folder after adding them as tasks.
Hi there Todoist staff -- this seems to still be an issue. Is there a version of the plugin where the 'folder change' issue is resolved? Otherwise the plugin is great but I agree with Mike Snow's comment above about workflow. Thanks!
There was a few updates since this last post. Please make sure you have installed the latest version from http://todoist.com/outlook. As this issue should not be the case anymore.
