Automatic reminders not working?

I

I purchased Todoist Premium yesterday because notifications are the main reason for me to use this service. I've got both the Firefox plugin installed on my laptop (FF 24.0) and the Android app on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3). I've got the default reminder set up as Mobile Push Notifications, with a Default time (on the Android app) of 09:00am.

However, I had a recurring task due this morning at 08:00am, and I didn't receive a notification. I also didn't receive notifications for other tasks due today which didn't have a specific time.

I've sent a mobile test message from the Todoist.com settings page, and that works fine. I've also created a test task with a due date of today and a manual reminder a few minutes after I created the task, and that one works fine as well.

Do I really need to add manual reminders for all my tasks? Or is there something else I've overlooked?

Hi There,

The default reminder setting picks which reminder system you want to use, PUSH, SMS or EMAIL. This also sets the reminder for 30 minutes before the task, if the task has a date & time set. So you do have to enter a date and time to have a reminder happen. There is no default task due time.

Thanks,
Brendon.

So. Erm. Why didn't I get a reminder for my 8:00 daily task? It has a due date and a due time, but nothing happened. Same for my 19:00 daily task.

I do have some additional information though. I created all these tasks yesterday, in the regular browser interface, after I'd purchased Premium. This morning I created a new recurring task through the Firefox plugin, set to recur daily at 20:00, and I DID get a reminder for that. It also shows the little reminder icon in the plugin screen, whereas the other tasks do not.

Hello Ine,

Is it possible that you have not logged out and back into your Todoist account right after purchasing Premium?

If so, this might have caused the problem as your browser might have had the older non-Premium version loaded/cached and since reminders are a Premium feature, it didn't trigger/add them as you've set up the task.

Please try to log out and back in now, edit these two older tasks by removing their due dates, saving them and then editing them again and re-adding the same date and time and see if this will add the default "30 minutes before reminder" to it.

Best regards,
David

I didn't log out after my purchase, so your explanation makes sense. Unfortunately, that means I will have to enter 170 tasks all over again (yeah, I got a bit enthousiastic). Would this be an issue that you are willing to consider for a future update? Like either doing a forced log out after purchasing Premium, or adding a feature under Premium asking if you want to do a bulk update on existing tasks after getting "reminder" capabilities?

(Because manually logging out after purchasing something is not an intuitive user step. It will either have to be prompted or forced).

Ine,

We're sorry for the inconvenience. We will indeed look into implementing some force re-log or reload upon upgrade in the future.

For now, to speed up this process, please hold down the CTRL key and start clicking on each task to multi-select them. You can then change their due dates to "no date" and similarly - add new dates and times to them if multiple tasks have the same dates.

But before you do that, please check if these tasks really don't have reminders set to them. Click on a task and then on the clock icon to see if the reminders are there to make sure if it's not a different issue by any chance.

Best regards,
David
