items jumping around!!!!!!!!!

LC

I've spent the last 1/2 redoing about 10 items that move and jump and don't stick. If you can't fix, I won't be using any more!

Hi Larry,

Could you please clarify on which platform you are using and exactly how this issue occurs. Are you adding a task on the web version, and it does not show up on mobile? Are you removing items that keep appearing, or you are sorting items that aren't staying sorted.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Brendon,

Sorry I was so frustrated with ToDoist that I forgot the usual info you would need to help me.

Running from latest Chrome browser on XP Pro 2002 SP3 desktop. It's similar to the questions you ask, but specifically I am moving the items and they seem to occasional jump back. I have 1 small hierarchy of tasks in 3 projects. I only have 1 project open / expanded at a time and am not trying to move those tasks outside of the project, only within. For example, I might have major tasks A, B, & C. Subtasks have not stayed where they belong, so I move say A1 appearing under B to it's rightful position under A. And I've done this a couple of ways. Editing the task, promoting it up a level (so I guess you say it would become D). save it, then go to the left side of the task, get the cross hair cursor (with arrows in each of 4 directions) then move it to below A. Edit it to demote it back to A1. I've had instances where what should have been say A2 was a group task but actual appeared under say B. Tried to move the whole group to A and either lost the lot (I actually ended up having to re-key / enter about 4 sub task on a previous occasion). Can't recall precisely if moving the sub group worked, but recently did the move from the lowest level so as not to loose anything. On some occasions the item jumps some place else.

Sorry if this is a bit vague, but frankly I've tried so many ways and have had a bunch of things shift and move where they weren't intended and it just becomes too hard to use this tool. It's a great one when it works, but when it screws up it seems to do so to the point of frustrating me to not want to use it.

Hope you can either show me the error of my ways or solve the problem so I can keep the 30 or so tasks that I have already entered.

Thanks for listening.

Larry,

Do you have and use any mobile applications? And were any of these tasks created on mobile? If you do I would suggest logging out (iOS) or clearing the data (Android.

To clarify, does this only happen within that one Project which you have open/expanded, or with all your projects? When editing or changing your tasks do you have a strong internet connection?

I would also suggest clearing the cache for your browser (chrome).

Thanks,
Brendon.

Hmm, yes as a matter of fact I think I do. On the iPad, I use Allegheny. I've logged out of that now. Will try ToDoist web later.

It happens with all projects, not jumping between projects, just jumping within the the project in which the tasks started out. Of course they don't always stay in the place you put them, but that's the issue isn't it?

Very strong internet connection. In the most recent case, good solid cable internet, with 1Gb NIC in the DT.

Clearing cache is always a pain, but will do. System is rebooted every couple of days anyway. Isn't that the same thing?

Thanks for your quick responses.

Larry,

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I was referring to any of our (Todoist) mobile applications.

Depending on the situation the tasks do move, the Today & date based views are sorted automatically, and Projects can be manually sorted, but can change if more are added. That being said, sub-tasks should stay part of the Parent task they were added too. If you can, please send brendon@doist.io and david@doist.io a screenshot of the issue, this might help in clarification as well.

Clearing the cache for your browser is very different then rebooting the computer. If you need help on how to accomplish that I can do so.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Brendon,

I didn't have it on my iPhone4s as it was chocka. In fact just doing my wife's new 5s before I do mine and I'll load it on. As I recall you didn't have an iPad version, so hence Allegheny (presume you know if links to ToDoist?)

I stay away from editing wile in the Today and date based views (for the reasons of jumping) so only edit in a project view.

Screenshot to come, but any help to clear the cache on Chrome on ToDoist ONLY would be much appreciated (can do it for all cache, but then loose a lot of other stuff).

Thanks,
Larry

Larry,

Within Chrome, head to the top right corner and click on the 3 Dots/lines. Then click Settings --> Show Advanced Settings --> Content Settings --> All Cookies & Site Data --> Search for Todoist --> Remove items.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Larry,

Also I forgot to mention. Allegheny is a third party app using our API that we do not support ourselves. Depending on how well these types of apps are maintained it can almost always arise with major issues such as you are having.

I would suggest removing it and not using this app.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Cache cleared. Thanks.
Remember now, your app needed IOS 6 and I was still on 5. Fortunately I have now upgraded to 7 and am downloading as I write.

Yeh, have logged in and these tasks just in one project bear NO relationship to what I had on the web. Now I haven't logged back into the web since we started this exchange, but the iPad setting say it synched a minute ago.

So guess this means I have to YET again re-order the tasks. Is that the case?

Since you seem to be replying quickly I won't start that arduous job until I hear back from you.

Larry,

After doing everything you have done, cache clearing, removal of app, and so forth. Yes try re-order the tasks as they should be and let me know if it continues to have issues.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Larry,

While being logged out of the iPad, clear cache for the browser, then re-order and organize on the browser. Then once all is correct, you can sign back into the iPad.

Sorry for not clarifying.

Thanks,
Brendon.

That's it mate. I've had it. I just moved them around in Project Personal. Tasks moved. Almost had it done. Opened them again and they jumped, and even CHANGED back after I had updated teh task!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I just don't have the time not to fuss with this. If all this to date hasn't fixed it, I have to seriously figure if I'm going to use what seemed like to pretty good software.

Hello Larry,

We're very sorry for the inconvenience, this is the first time we're having a report about such issue and unfortunately, we still can't reproduce it under any circumstance :(

We believe the source of all these issues is the Allegheny app, please make sure it's completely removed from your phone and after that you've logged out and back into your Todoist account on all platforms.

If you could please create a new test project with just 2-3 tasks in it and try to reorder them there and let us know if the issue persist that would be very helpful and confirm if it's an issue with some particular task set (because of using Allegheny) or if it persists everywhere on your account.

Best regards,
David
