Hello Vladimir,

This should not happen, please try to uninstall the app, install this version: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/5023a6d6c92501bdfb0e00969703a767/as/Todoist_for_Windows.exe and let us know if it helps.

If it doesn't please clarify - how and when exactly does it crash? When you open it? Does it show any error messages or reports?

Best regards,
David

This's exactly the same version I downloaded and installed couple of hours ago.
Still, I have reinstalled the software and am getting same error now.

The app starts, I can see an icon in notifications area, empty windows pops-up and then app crashes.
It's standard windows 'Todoist for Windows has stopped working' message. The details are:

Hi Vladimir

I was just wondering if you are using a proxy server or proxy.pac file to access the internet?
My Todoist for Windows crashed on startup and it seems to relate to the proxy.pac that my employer installed on my work laptop.
If I disable it when I am connected to my home network Todoist loads fine but if I am at work it crashed immediately.

It's a bug in the software, are there going to be any comments from the todoist team ?

I'm having a similar problem. Interestingly, the Outlook plugin does not seem to be affected by the issue. The Windows application will crash immediately if I use my autoproxy. If I manually set the proxy or turn proxy settings off, the application will work.

Hi! I have just invested in ToDoist. My aim is to convince my IT Administrator to make the case for converting the organisation to ToDoist.

My IT Administrator agreed to load the programme for me (I do not have the rights for that, despite being a senior budget holder).

I don't think my business will be buying into ToDoist - it crashed for the rerason set out in this thread.

Her comment?

"We have so many staff using our current IT solution for internet access that I can not justify making a case for this product".

The key problem you have is not so much that the Windows Client need a 'fix', it's more that the problem was reported in May (Shankar Vasudevan) and now it's October, 6 months later and you are giving the same lame promis.

Anybody reading this post that's been wise enough to look here BEFORE investing should take note.........

If I understand correctly this fault is taking a long time because it requires a rewrite of the app from the ground up. I imagine that is not going to be a simple matter.

I do think communication could have been better, but having a watch on this topic I've been informed whenever anyone asks a question. It would be nice as a paying customer to know what the predicted delivery date was, but as a Software PM myself I can understand the reluctance (btw if you need a beta tester I'm happy to help).

I haven't read any "lame" promises at all, just a reasonable explanation of what's required.

And I knew of this issue before I payed, given the firefox, outlook and chrome plug in's there are workarounds in place.

After all of that - Guy's PLEASE let us know when we can expect a release that fixes the issue?

Hello Dave,

We're very sorry for the delays, but unfortunately we can't give you any expected release date. We don't want to make a super-quick fix that may or may not help or even introduce other issues in the process, we prefer to fix it for good.

We are working on it all the time, we've hired a separate developer whose task is to take care just of this and we hope to have it all done within a few weeks, but again - the goal is to really fix it.

Best regards,
David

Hello David

I am amazed how many products are designed and shipped without corporate customers in mind and the way proxies are handled is absolutely fundamental to that. Companies take security very seriously (quite correctly) so any application that does not take this into account from the outset is going to have major issues in being adopted widely.

I'm quite disappointed as I have been looking for a product / service to migrate to having lost confidence that Toodledo know where they are going with their (actually very capable) service. I had decided to give Todoist a real trial only to find a significant hurdle at the start.

"A few weeks" is really quite a long time for such an urgent fix, although I do appreciate the desire to get it right where security is concerned. I hope you can deliver sooner.

Great product - keep listening to your customers!

Beset wishes,
Richard

Well - I would have hoped this issue with the Windows application would have been fixed by now. I appreciate that you're working on it, but in my opinion you shouldn't have released the application with such a serious bug. It does little, but damage your image. Whilst I like the potential of Todoist and think the premium features may be worth the (slightly expensive) $29 per year (... why not have a single purchase price?!)... the lack of the Windows client has put me off purchasing the Premium version. Perhaps in year or so's time, if I'm still using Todoist and haven't found anything better, then I may revisit my decision. I know I'm only one potential customer, but I'm sure my sentiments are felt by others too.

Works okay for me at my workplace, which is where the problem occurred before, due to the proxy settings file (*.pac) enforced by my company.

I haven't had a chance to try it outside the corporate environment yet.

I assume that this is picking up the system settings because if my system proxy settings are wrong then Todoist tries to connect, fails, and leaves a red warning triangle in the bottom notifications bar. Hovering over that causes some odd behaviour as the windows starts flickering - this should be fixed.

It would probably be useful to offer the option to set proxy settings as well as the default of adopting system default.

Thanks,
Richard

@Richard - we think using the system settings is more convenient than having to set up everything manually and as you've said - if your proxy settings are correct, it will work.

I'm sorry to hear that. Please clarify - did logging out actually bring you back to the login page or did nothing happen at all? Does the same blank screen show up if you use the "Home" option (from the tray icon)?

Todoist uses standard web ports to connect and the latest version uses your system's proxy settings.
