Today (overdue, today) change sort order

M

Hi,

When I click the "Today" button, i get the (overdue, today) stuff to show up. I get that you can type in (today, overdue) or (overdue, today) to change that order, but within the overdue itself, the order shows up with the oldest items first.
It used to be that the most recent overdue items were at the top, and the oldest were down the bottom. How can i get that back?
It's really killing the purpose for todoist for me.

Regards
Maz

Hello Maz,

Per request, we have moved away from the old way of splitting overdue tasks into 5 days or less and 6 days or more groups, but as you've noticed, you now have the choice to search for them differently to show them either at the top or at the bottom.

Please clarify how you're using Todoist so we can better understand why this is killing the purpose of it for you? Do you always set many overdue tasks? Add dates for past event? We would appreciate if you would clarify this.

Best regards,
David

Well in my position, I have a large number of business development projects for various clients. I have each client set up as a project, along with various internal departments etc..

Within each project there can be a large number of tasks and sub tasks. Each one is set with a due date, however in the real world, these dates often are pushed back due to other priorities. These tasks are "outstanding" and therefor having the "125 days overdue" is a fantastic utility for knowing the delays and impacts on various items.
With the old sorting, it allowed me an "at a glance" visual aid for tasks that are overdue in the last week and the last month immediately at the top of the page, along with new stuff coming up. The really old overdue items I can scroll down to view when needed. I have a monitor setup up which has todoist permanently on it, and I find it extremely handy as a management tool.

Now however, if i click to refresh"today/overdue" i have to scroll down to find the most recently overdue items each time, which is not productive at all, and if i don't have it available at glance without having to scroll down, i miss the "urgent" overdue items.

I know it may sound pedantic, but that feature is exactly what i had been looking for in a task management tool and now its gone.

I understand that if other members prefer it this way, then that is why the change was made, however could you not have the developers add a "sort today/overdue asc or desc" option so that users can choose? I'm sure I wouldnt be the only person who has this preference?

I fully agree with Maz.
I also have projects with multiple dependecies and having most recent overdue task on the top was very usefull for me.

Maybe it would be a good idea to have two buttons for sorting tasks?

Jan

Hi
Im also agree with Maz 100+.
Few of my overdue tasks are nearly 200 days over. Im also scroll down to see the recent overdue tasks, which is inconvenient.

As posted by Maz, an option to sort the overdue tasks in ascending / descending order (latest or oldest dues first) to choose by the user.

I add a request in the Votebox for this requirement.

Please, allow this. I have to scroll to the bottom of the list constantly!

Thanks,

Jason

Hello Jason,

Please use the query "today, overdue" instead of "overdue, today" to see overdue tasks at the bottom.

David

Thanks. Great, but what about sorting the "overdue" section so most overdue tasks appear at the bottom of the list? I want to see today, then most recent task. If things are long overdue, they're probably not important.

Best,

Jason

Jason,

That would not be possible to change, but we will consider that in future updates. We do feel that the oldest should be the most important though we will consider other options as well.

Brendon.

Thanks, Brendon. Please do consider making it an option. That way we don't have to agree on which order is correct. I will say that the constant scrolling as a fact-of-life within Todoist is a source of irritation in an otherwise fine product.

It's a small issue, but like a tiny stone in your shoe it wears on you day after day.

Thanks,

Jason
