How does the Outlook plugin work?

KK

I have downloaded and installed the Todoist app for Outlook, but I can't understand where to find it in Outlook? I've looked through all the tabs and there's nothing mentioning Todoist. What do I do to launch it?

Hi Kallani,

What version of Outlook are you running? You might need to enable the plugin in the Add-ins area. I can give instructions for your version if needed.

This is for 2007,

1. Go to Tools > Trust Center
2. Click on the Add-ins section
3. You will now see all active, non-active, and disabled add-ins. Click on the add-in you want to enable/disable and then click on the Go button towards the bottom.
4. This will then open up the COM add-ins page. You can then check off OutlookTodoist to enable it.

If that does not work, please try re-installing it while Outlook is still running.

Thanks,
Brendon.

I am using Outlook 2010 with Windows 7. I have uninstalled and will start again from scratch when I have time. I looked in the Outlook Trust Center and Add-Ins settings before I uninstalled it and there was no mention of Todoist anywhere.

I've also had trouble with the Windows app, ever since the update a couple of weeks ago it won't open. Click the icon and nothing happens, try from the Windows menu and again nothing happens. Have installed/uninstalled twice, I give up with it!

Kallani,

With the Outlook plugin it has been known that sometimes it requires an installation with Outlook running. Please give that a try and let me know.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Hello Kailani,

Regarding the Windows app, please try to install this updated version, it should work fine: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/de7f1d308a5af006096dbaecd2aa6130/as/Todoist_for_Windows.exe

I'm having similar problems with the Outlook PLugin, I've installed the Todoist Outlook Plugin under WIndows 7 / Outlook 2007, and under Tools>Trust Center I can see that OutlookTodoisrADX *is* enabled as an Active Application Add-In.

I can see the "Todoist" pane on the right hand side of Outlook, but (apart from the window title bar) BUT the pane stays completely blank for about 5 minutes - i.e. nowhere to login, no tasks being shown, then FINALLY I get presented with a login form (but it looks like some graphic elements are missing), HOWEVER when I enter in my (correct) login details and click the "Login" link text, nothing happens

Is Outlook 2010 required to get this to work properly?

NB: I can also see the "Add Todoist" button and "AddToDoiist" is list at the bottom of the contect menu when you right click an email, but it doesn't seem to do anything, presumably because the login to Todoist doesn't seem to work,

Hello Paul,

Please close down Outlook, and then clear the cache for Internet Explorer. Then please try again. Office 2007 should work without a problem :)

If that does not work, make sure you have .NET Framework 4 installed, a re-installation might help as well.

Thanks,
Brendon.

@Brendon Wadey - I've now tried all yoiur suggestion, but am still having the same problems that I described earlier with the Outlook plugin :-(

Could it potentially be some kind of firewall problem?

NB: The Todist Windows app works fine, but Outlook integration would be *so* useful, so am keen to get this working,

Hi, I re-installed on Friday after closing all other programmes, and it seems to be working ok now. I haven't bothered re-installing the windows app as I don't need both. Thanks for your help!

Hello Paul,

This could be a firewall issue, especially if you're using Outlook in a work environment. If you do use it at work, have you contacted your system administrator about this? Are they blocking plugins within Outlook that connect to external websites?

Best regards,
David

Hi David - yes, I'm trying to use it in a work environment, I'll ask our system admin about whether they're blocking plugins within Outlook that connect to external websites.l

Paul

I went through every step list here without success, including fixing/reinstalling the .net framework. Nothing worked... until I saw that there were updates to the .net framework 4 in Windows Update that had not been installed. After installing the updates, the plugin works.

Hello Doug,

Yes, it does. If you encounter any issues, though, please try to install this new version: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/02cd062715e057dfa9ee118565c79108/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.exe

Hi There,

To clarify, you have followed these steps?

If so, please close Outlook, head to the Control Panel, make sure TodoistOutlook is not listed, if it is, remove it. Then clear then cache for IE, and reboot.

Then install this version (same file name, different version) and let me know if it works. https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/27d69392edce0cbd2d7128b9c74d070d/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.exe

Thanks,

I installed todoist the given link. But on another PC. Before installing an Outlook turned off. I'm going home, too, by trying the most on my home PC. Thank you very much.

I've installed add-in for Outlook and all I get is a blank Todoist payne on the right side of Outlook window (no links, no menus, no tasks - nothing except the Todoist logo). I've tried all of the suggestions in this thread to no avail. About to just give up on trying Todoist. Does it not work with Outlook 2013?

Hello Jim,

We're sorry to hear that. Yes, it works with Outlook 2013 (I've just checked now). Please try to clear the plugin's cache from this location:

%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Todoist\Outlook\Cache

and let me know if it helps. Also, are you in a corporate network behind additional firewalls, VPNs, proxies etc.?

Best regards,
David

I navigated to the %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Todoist\Outlook folder, but there is no "Cache" file or subfolder. I am not on a corporate network.

Jim,

To clarify - the Todoist logo you see is in the middle of the Todoist pane and has a "pending" animation below it or is it somewhere else?

David

No pending animation. Just the small logo and "Todoist" text in the upper left corner of the Todoist payne. The rest of the payne is blank. There is also a Todoist icon group in the "Home" ribbon. The only selection in this group is "Add Todoist" which when clicked doesn't appear to do anything.

Jim,

Thanks. We are looking into a blank issue with our plugin (among others) and hope to find a solution soon.

Ok. Not sure it's relevant, but I'm using the 64-bit version of Outlook 2013.
