Sync not working with Android app

TL

Hi, I'm on the one-month premium offer, but the sync works only intermittently for me. I'm using the website for work, and trying to sync to the android app through a widget.

However, changes I make on either the website or the app don't register, even if I open the android app. Yes, I'm manually tapping the refresh icon, and refreshing the webpage in the Chrome browser.

Cheers!

Hello Tony,

We're very sorry for the inconvenience, this is a temporary issue that we're working on right now. Please try to uninstall and reinstall the app, in some cases it can help to overcome this issue in the meantime.

Best regards,
David

There has been an update pushed out that should address these issues, please update to it when it shows up in your Play Store (1.2.3)

Thanks,

Seems like this syncing issue is back, uninstalling and resinstalling has no effect this time. Currently running 1.2.4...

Thanks everyone for letting us know.

The issue is that most users are still on the older version, which is what is causing our server issues. We need everyone to upgrade to the latest version to see the changes.

We are also trying everything else we can to improve this situation. Sorry for the troubles, please hold on :)

Thanks,
Brendon.

Yep, it's done again. I'm using 1.2.4 on Android jellybean. I reinstalled the app, and now it's trying to sign me in, to no avail so far...

OK, so I've just rebooted my Nexus 4, and the problem is sorted. My apologies! The sync problem had nothing to do with Todoist after all. Post-reboot, Todoist is syncing without a hitch.

Hi, I recently purchased a Samsung Galanxy Note GT-N5100. Using todoist very actively and it working on my Samsung phone. However it simply won't sink on the Galaxy note.

It logs in but no data is loaded. Only the message: Couldn't Refresh Try Again Later.

Have tried reinstalling as well as rebooting no result.

Grateful for help/support

Hello Nishant,

Please uninstall the app and make sure you're installing the latest version 1.2.5.

We're sorry for the inconvenience, there have been some syncing issues lately, but we're working on them right now, most should already be fixed, though.

Best regards,
David

I also have sync problems where the order of the tasks in today's or tomorrow's list gets mixed-around after I sync my android.

Hello Yehoshua,

Please tell me:
- Does this also affect the order of your tasks on other platforms? So does the Android sync affect the web?
- Does this happen only for tasks due today or all tasks from all 7 days get reordered incorrectly (not by priority)?

Best regards,
David

David,

It affects the order on all platforms. In other words, after I move the order of tasks the way I like them using chrome, I sync my android and they're out of order. Then I go back to chrome, and they're in the same, incorrect order as they are on the android.

I know it happens if I reorder the tasks for today or for tomorrow. I rarely reorder tasks beyond tomorrow and am not sure if it the problem reoccurs with it.

Thanks for looking into this. Lemme know if you have any more questions.

Yehoshua,

Please try to delete our Android app, reinstall it and then test if you can reproduce this issue again with accessing the Android app causing the incorrect order after syncing.

David

David,

I think I figured out what's happening. (Although I work as a mechanical engineer, I also have software development experience for NASA and DOD contracts and have a good sense of what's happening in your software.)

It seem to be something similar to this:
1 You open the android app to the "today" screen and leave it there.
2 You use the web app and the Android app doesn't update automatically when you make changes in the web app (they're not pushed to android).
3 open the android app to "today" again and hit "update" button. Now, todoist server sees two sets of "order" data for today's tasks. One from the webapp and one from android app. It tries to mix them together but they get mishgabobbled.

This disrupts me. Please take a look and try to fix.

Thanks!

Yehoshua,

Thank you for this information. Our server actually should overwrite the order if it's been updated. It looks at the timestamps of any changes you make and upon each sync, it will "pull rank" and update to the latest state based on any information he gets from any platform.

Nonetheless, we've looked into it already and it should be fixed in the next upcoming updates. We will also introduce forced push-sync that will update each platform instantly.

Best regards,
David

Hi,

I think I also have a similar issue, in that changes I do in todoist in gmail or on todoist.com are not reflected on the phone, even after several hours. Further, I sometimes experience that it does not help to refresh the android app.

This is really annoying, actually, and sort of ruins the experience for me. I hope you are able to fix this in not too long. Perhaps push-sync might fix this?

Best regards,
Karl

Hi,

Are you updated to the latest version of our Android app, there were a few update the past day, since our big update.

Is this still occuring after doing so? A re-install of the app might help at this point as well.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Hi,

I was on version 3.0.2 on android 4.4.2, but noticed that there was an update available now. After the update, I am on version 3.0.4.

I will let you know if the problem persists.

Best,
Karl

David,

I'm still having a problem with the Android app. It seems like it's not pushing the data while the Android is inactive. Then when I use the Android again, it auto-updates and shuffles the order again.

This is very disruptive to my work.

Thanks.

Yehoshua,

Are you referring to the app or the widget? And by inactive, meaning when it's closed?

Regards,
Brendon.

Referring to the app.

Inactive means that the phone was sitting on my desk, untouched, while I was working on my Windows computer. I sorted tomorrow's tasks in web interface (via chrome).

Hello Yehoshua,

If the tasks you were sorting had a priority, then this data won't sync. We will soon lock the option to sort tasks with a priority on date-based views on the web as well (it's not possible on Android already). Please tell me - does the issue persist if you add a task?

Yehoshua,

Sorry for the misunderstanding, we're addressing this issue now. Basically reordering tasks with priorities on the today view should not be possible and they should automatically be sorted by priority on all platforms.

David

NO! Please, please, please don't override manual ordering of tasks. If you do, I'm gonna stop using Todoist and go back to my paper index cards!

David,

This issue of my tasks be shuffled into a new order was fixed when Todoist Next came out... until today, that is. I received the update to Todoist 3.0.7 this morning, and now the tasks got shuffled into a random order.

All the tasks are "priority 4".

Please have your dev team fix the bug. Thanks!

Yehoshua,

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this issue in this version. It features the complete fix for the reordering problem and I've tried to recreate it to no avail.

Are you certain the order is random? Do these tasks have times? Does completely deleting and reinstalling the app help? And finally - can you reliably reproduce this issue anytime? If so - how can it be done exactly?

Best regards,
David

Hi again,

This issue is still bothering me quite alot! I'm using the Todoist widget on my homescreen, and it does not reliable update automatically. As an example, the widget still shows tasks under "Today", where the date is February 10, even though today is obviously February 11.

I have no idea what the cause of this problem is. It does not help if I open the app and refresh. Of course, the app itself works OK, the problem is only related to the widget. To get the widet to update, I have to select one of the tasks, after which the widget updates correctly.

Note that I currently do not use the android app very much. I basically just keep the widget on my homescreen as a TODO reminder, and I do not open the app on a day-to-day basis. To reproduce the issue, I think you would have to add the widget to the homescreen, select one of the profiles (for instance: "Next 7 days"), then only use web interface. In the beginning, it seems as if everything syncs well, but after a day or two with no direct activity from the widget or android app, the synchronisation does not work.

Best regards,
Karl
