Getting repeated 'OutlookTodoist' has fired an exception.

HF

Using Outlook 2010, Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit
Issue happens after using Outlook for about an hour, and then repeats every time a different email is viewed in the reading pane. Closing and restarting Outlook solves the issue for a short time, and then it starts again after a while. Any idea what can be done?

Here is the detailed info:

I am having the same problem, and finding it very annoying. How do you fix it?

Hello,

Please make sure that Internet Explorer and Office is up to date, that there are no updates available in Windows Update.

Please try clearing the cache for IE, and restart.

If that does not work, please try installing this previous version which should work fine.

IE and Office were and are up to date.
I tried clearing the cache and that worked for a day. Then the issue recurred.
So I installed the older version as you suggested.
When Outlook started, I got 5 exceptions right away. It seems the problem got worse, not better. Below is the text from one of them.
I will try restarting my system and see if it recurs.

Hello,

We are working very hard to find the solution to this problem, and hope to have one soon.

Please make sure .NET Framework 4 is installed and up to date, and a re-installation of the plugin might help.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks,
Brendon.

Hello Lars,

We're very sorry for the inconvenience. Please try to reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework on your computer. If this won't help, make sure that you don't have any other custom plugins in Outlook (which may collide with our plugin).

Hi. I see the last post on this was back in July, but I too am having this problem, which started probably about a month ago. I have checked Windows Update and have no outstanding updates except Bing, which I don't want.
The only other plugin I can think of is the stock vtiger outlook plugin which I need, so no option to uninstall that.
Please advise and if you want me to uninstall and reinstall one or other of your plugins please give me clear instructions on how to do that, explaining it to me like I'm a five year old.
Incidentally and coincidentally I got notification when I opened Outlook this morning that a new plugin was available and selected the option to upgrade to it hoping it might fix the issue, but is hasn't.
Like others I am a fully paid-up premium user so not entirely a happy bunny at the minute...

Hello Patrick,

We're sorry for the inconvenience, we're still working on a rewrite of our Outlook plugin, but for now, please try to reinstall the latest update by following these steps:

1. Go to your system's Control Panel then "Programs & Features".
2. Find "OutlookTodoist" on this list and uninstall it.
3. Download and install this version of our plugin: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/cd2fb847eb3397185b45a892c8d94dc5/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.exe

Right, I've just tried that. It uninstalled fine. When I went to reinstall it having downloaded from the link you gave me (with Outlook closed down) it appeared to install OK in that it ran through the motions and finished by saying OutlookTodoist.ADX had installed successfully but when I now open Outlook I cannot see the Todoist window or any reference to it. Do I need to do anything to activate it?

Patrick,

Please go to Outlook's Options -> Add-ins, click on "Go" next to "COM Add-ins" (at the bottom) and you should see a list of plugins with check boxes next to them. Check off the box next to "OutlookTodoist" and this should activate the plugin.

Hi David
I followed your instructions which were very clear, thank you. This activated the plugin as expected, however, when I shut Outlook down in the evening and reopen it the next day the plugin fails to load automatically. I note that my other COM Add-Ins list the Load Behaviour as "Load at Startup", whereas the OutlookTodoistADX add-in lists it as either "Loaded" or "Unloaded" depending on whether I have ticked it or not. It is irritating to have to keep going back into settings to switch this on everyday. Can you please advise?
Many thanks.

We're sorry for the inconvenience, we'll look into this issue as we release the next update. So far, I'm unable to reproduce this on my machine, it loads correctly every time without having to activate it. That said, please let me know:
- What version of Windows do you use?
- What version of Outlook do you use?
- Are you behind any corporate firewalls or proxy servers?

I'm running Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit with SP1 and Outlook 2010 linked to two separate exchange servers(one local and one hosted). No corporate Firewall or proxy server.
FYI I wasn't having this problem with the previous version of the add-in I'd been using (though of course I was having the 'fired an exception' issue.
Many thanks,

Hello Patrick,

We're still looking into it on our end, but for now, you could change the loading behaviour through your registry.

To do so, hit the Win+R key combination, type "regedit" and confirm with Enter. Then, search for "OutlookTodoistADX.AddinModule". You should find it in this path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\OutlookTodoistADX.AddinModule\LoadBehavior

The value of this key should be changed to 3 and this will set the plugin to "Load on Startup".

Let us know if this helps.

We're very sorry for the inconvenience, we're working on a fixed version of our plugin, porting it to a different engine and it won't take long before the release at this point. It's being created by the same new programmer that has fixed our Windows app a few weeks ago so we're confident that the Outlook plugin will be done very soon.
