I was running Todoist on my windows 7 machine and suddenly it crashed and every time I try and reload it says it had to close. I uninstalled and reinstalled and got the same thing. How do I fix this. I think all versions of todist are not running

just out of curiosity: why I are ou even using the program? I find that the website does everything without the need to have one more program running all the time ...

Hello Arthur,

First off - please note that the web version works on a plane as well. In fact, the Todoist for Windows app is just a frame that connects to the todoist.com web-app and uses HTML5 offline storage. Every modern browser can use HTML5 offline storage too so you can use the web-app offline.

In both cases, you must be logged in and then you can disconnect and continue to use it. If you use Chrome and access it through https://todoist.com/app you could even access it while you're already offline.

As for the issue you're experiencing - unfortunately, we can't reproduce it. Please tell me - have you installed the latest version of the app from https://todoist.com/windows and made sure than when you've uninstalled it, it was fully closed even in the notifications area (system tray)?

Also, can you remember the circumstances in which the app crashed? Did you install any new software at this time?

You could also try to install one of the earlier versions of the app:

I was having this issue, then uninstalled and re-installed. several weeks ago. Yesterday an update came out and now the same thing is happening. I click on the icon in my taskbar, or the shortcut on my desktop to open and nothing happens. I looked at task manager and it is not running in the background. Not running at all. If this is going to happen every time you do an update I am going to have to find another solution, this is just to frustrating.

I am trying to determine whether I should switch from RTM to Todoist (in part due to the existence of a Windows app). However, as with the many other users I cannot get the program to start in Win7. I have tried both of the installer links above. Do you have any more information for me to consider before I move on with my evaluation?

Hello Christopher,

We're sorry for the inconvenience. We're unsure why the app can't be installed on some systems and we have troubles reproducing it.

The latest version of the app is this: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/5023a6d6c92501bdfb0e00969703a767/as/Todoist_for_Windows.exe Please try to install it and if it won't work, please tell us:
- At what point does it crash and what error messages do you see?
- Do you have Microsoft .NET Framework installed on your computer?
- Do you have the latest version of IE installed?

David,

I installed that installer (again). The program installs correctly, but then crashes when I try to run it. The borders of what must be the main Todoist window open up with just white contents and then a Windows dialog opens up on top of that with "Todoist for Windows has stoped working".

.Net Framework 4 is installed

IE 8.0.7601.17514

I have the same problem on Windows 7. The VS JIT debugger says that "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in Todoist.exe [4176]".

Would really love to be able to use the desktop app again someday.

What should we try next? This important feature is still broken.

Chris,

Yes we are still aware of these issues with Desktop app and our Outlook plugin. We unfortunately, are unable to reproduce it 100% and so we have been having issues resolving it.

The ticket was marked complete because we did think it was solved at one point, that of course is not the case.

Of course the bigger issue in relation to your problem, is that it could be an issue with IE8 as we do not fully support that version anymore.

Again, we are working in it.

Thanks,
Brendon.

If you prefer to quit the app upon closing, please right-click on the TD icon in the tray and go to Configurations.

Thomas,

Please try to use this URL instead: https://todoist.com/app?v=204

I've just checked it and it seems to work - I can access the site while already being offline even after closing the browser.

If it won't work, try to go to Chrome's Advanced Settings -> Content Settings -> All cookies and site data, search and remove all Todoist-related data, reload the browser and then go directly to https://todoist.com/app?v=204 while you're online, log in and then without logging out, close the browser and disconnect.

Next time you open it offline and also go to https://todoist.com/app?v=204 you will be able to access the site (again - if you didn't log out before).
