Task list in Outlook

Q

I have Todoist pinned to Outlook on my PC. When I go to the settings menu of a task and try to add a reminder the window that opens up is for another task.

I am able to successfully update other tasks. It's hit and miss. I have a desktop video capture of the problem occurring if you would like to view it. It's about 4mb.

I'm still having trouble after having downloaded the new version.

One thing to note. I have around 20 tasks on my Todist list. On tasks 1-12 I have no problems. When I try to add a reminder on tasks 13 and beyond, I run into my problems mentioned above.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this issue in the version of the plugin I've sent you.

Please try to clear IE's cache (our plugin uses IE to connect), log out and back in and see if it persists. If it does, please clarify:
- Does it happen within a project view, a date view, a label view or any other search result?
- Can you reproduce this on the web-version of Todoist?

Best regards,
David

David,

Thanks for the response.

I cleared my cache on IE, logged out/in. Same symptoms. It seems more buggy than before.

I am not able to reproduce my problems on the web-version.

This is all under a project view. If I try to do anything after task #12 and beyond, when I click on a task setting, the menu selections seem to jump around when I click on any of the menu items it seems as if the menu is trying to fit within the allotted window/desktop space.

I ran another test. It seems as if it doesn't matter if the task list has more than 12 tasks. The problem comes in when the task list goes beyond the screen and you are required to scroll down.

I created a test project and created 14 test tasks. Each task was labeled task1 through task14. All 14 tasks fit neatly within the allotted window space. When I added two emails to the task list, this pushed the task list beyond the window space which required me to scroll down.

When I clicked on the task settings, I had the same issue with the task menu settings box moving around trying to fit on the allotted desktop space when I tried to click on anything. I could also not add any reminders or move the task to another project because of the menu window was unstable.

I tried my best to explain this. Hopefully you can understand my thoughts.

Ed,

I can confirm that when you right-click on a task near the bottom of the window, the list will "jump up" to allow the display of the context menu, but if I then click on "Reminders" and add a reminder, it gets added exactly to the same task that I've right-clicked on.

Please clarify - when you right-click on a task near the bottom and the list jumps back, do you them click on "Reminders" right away or do you right-click once again in the same place as before, but now there's a different task there (because the list moved)?

David

David,

I right click on the settings button for the task (on the bottom of the list). Once the settings window pops up, I move my cursor down to Reminders. When I click on Reminders the whole task list goes back up so that the scroll bar is back to the top.

So, to clarify:
Let's say one click of a mouse is two actions:
Action 1-Press down. to left click.
Action 2-Release the mouse left click.

When I click on a task settings button, the menu pops up.

This scrolls the Todist window all the way to the bottom to let the settings window fit.

When I press down to left click (action 1) on reminders the Todist window scrolls back up to the top of the list. This leaves my cursor on whatever action the window moves it too.

When I release the mouse left click (action 2) it performs the action of whatever my cursor is on at that time.
- Example, if at action two, the window moves and my cursor is on "do it today", then that's what action is taken when I release the mouse.
- If at action two, the window moves and my cursor is on "add task below", then that's what action is taken when I release the mouse.

Thanks!
Ed

Ed,

Thank you very much for the detailed description, but unfortunately, following it step-by-step did not reveal this issue. Whether I use the gear icon on the right side of the task or right-click on the task (which opens the same settings menu for this task) - the moment I click on the gear or right-click on the task, the list moves to fit this settings menu on the screen, but the left-clicking on the Reminders option does not move the list or the settings menu at all and the reminder is added correctly.

The issue your describing was indeed present in one of our earlier versions of the Outlook plugin, but in the version I've sent you earlier, we can't reproduce it under any circumstance.

Please tell me - what version of IE is installed on your computer and is it the latest version for your system (IE8 for XP, IE9 for Vista/7 and IE10 for Windows 8)?

Best regards,
David

Ed,

The version should be shown in the Programs and Features window in your system's control panel, but to make sure, you can uninstall it and then reinstall the version from this location: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/23ba6af99340be5655be8317812129dd/as/OutlookTodoist.Adx.RC.exe

David,

I'm using IE9, Version 9.0.8112.16421

My OS is Windows 7. I'm not sure how to tell if IE9 is the latest version for my system.

Thanks!

David,

GREAT NEWS! I think I may have had the old version still loaded. When I booted up this morning I noticed that in my individual emails I had the Todoist task list mounted on each email. That was new. So that led me to think that I might have a new version of Todist installed. I ran the same tests above and it appears that the problem is resolved!

I can add reminders on all tasks with no problems.

Thanks for all your support and patience!!
