Windows app fails to start with "Unknown Error Occured"

JH

I just installed Todoist on a Win7 64-bit system and it appeared to install correctly, but instead the Todoist application just shows:

Error:

Unknown Error Occured

Hello Jim,

Please try to launch the app and then click on the TD icon in your system's notifications area (system tray), choose "Logout" and let me know if you get redirected to the login page and can log into the app.

Also, please make sure that you're online and that a firewall isn't blocking the connection for this app.

Best regards,
David

I have been facing the same problem as Jim Higgins. On a Windows XP system. When I click on "Logout" or "Reload", nothing happens. When I click on Configuration, it says:
"Todoidt get an internal error
Please let it to send us information about it, so we would be able to fix it ASAP."
In response to which I can choose "Yes" or "No". But whichever I choose, nothing happens and the software quits on its own.

Hello Anirudh,

Please tell me:
- Are you using the latest version of our app from http://todoist.com/windows ?
- Are you online when you try to open this app?
- Have you tried uninstalling it from the Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and re-install it again?

Best regards,
David

My guess is that Todoist may be having trouble getting out to the Internet from within company networks. I have Todoist on my application whitelist but that doesn't seem to help. Is it possible that it's not using the system routing settings?

Hello Jim,

It is possible. Please try to whitelist todoist.com as well as cloudfront.net (that's an Amazon Web Service we use). If this won't help, try to install an updated version: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/46df05282d620e14d9ddd8a60d813dad/as/Todoist_for_Windows.RC.exe

@wallenwang,

Please try to install the updated version, too. And also, update the Outlook plugin to: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/82b87011c7a86df0809676bb96ebfa9b/as/OutlookTodoist.RC.exe

Anirudh,

Please try to go to the "Run" option in your system's Start Menu and type:

ipconfig /flushdns

and let me know if the issue persists. Also, please tell me, are you behind any additional firewalls or using a proxy server to connect to the internet?

David

The same error.
I tried to visit cloudfront.net, and I got "DNS Domain 'cloudfront.net' is invalid: Valid name, no data record of requested type. The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct. "
Maybe that's the problem.

As for cloudfront.net - you can't visit this domain. It's a server for storage-only.

Wallenwang,

Yes, it's possible that a corporate firewall or proxy server may introduce these issues.

Please confirm - when you use the Windows version, it crashes when you search for labels?

Please try to install this updated version: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/46df05282d620e14d9ddd8a60d813dad/as/Todoist_for_Windows.RC.exe and let me know if the issue persists.

Thank you for the screenshots. Unfortunately, we don't understand Chinese and we're having an issue with the translation of the text you wrote in your email. Please clarify what exactly do you do to see the error as shown on your second screenshot?

Also, does the issue persist if you set Todoist to English (you can do so by logging out through the TD icon in the notifications area and using the link at the login page to change the language)?

Best regards,
David

Thank you for the screencast. Unfortunately, we can't reproduce this issue. Please tell me:
- Does this happen with absolutely every label?
- Does it also happen when you click on the label from within a project (below a task that has it)?

David

@David Trey
how to set proxy server address in app ?

Replied on Aug 21, 2013 - 06:31

Hello Adrian,

Unfortunately, that's not possible right now, but we'll consider adding such option in the future. Usually, your system's global proxy settings should cover all connections for all applications.

David
