"Todoist for Windows has stopped working". It crashes every time when I launch the Windows app.

G

The Windows app crashes whenever I launch the app! It will say "Todoist for Windows has stopped working." I have never successfully opened the app once.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the app several times but without success. Is there anything I can do?

I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bits; Todoist 2.1; and I've tried English version and Chinese version. Neither of them works.

Thank you~

Hello,

Please try to install this version instead: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/4887a21ebb9de91ed161e87aa1a09db3/as/Todoist_for_Windows.RC.exe and let us know if it solves this issue (it's a new pre-release build).

Best regards,
David

This seems to have stopped the crashing for me, but it won't repaint the client unless I resize the window.

I am on Windows 8 64 bit

Hello Dom,

Please clarify - what do you see exactly when you open the app and what happens when you resize it?

Also, doe the issue you experience also persists when using the "Home" option from the TD icon in the notifications area (system tray)?

David

Thank you for the quick response.

Sometimes I'll get the TD loading icon. But mostly it will just be a blank screen. Once I resize, I get my normal task view with my projects and the tasks list for my last selected project.

I can't seem to find a "Home" option in the system tray context menu. I have the following options -

Show/Hide
Quick Add Task
Configuration
------
Synch
Reload
------
Open Todoist.com
About
------
Logout
------
Quit

If it makes a difference, I have a dual monitor setup, with my laptop extending its desktop to another screen. That being said, I have the same problems when I'm not connected to the external monitor.

Dom,

Please try to install this version of the app: https://d2dq6e731uoz0t.cloudfront.net/0759b8fb4bef4073670fe318cb0c2b99/as/Todoist_for_Windows.RC.exe and then see if the "Home" option solves this (or maybe the issue won't persist at all in this version). The "Home" option was not available in earlier versions of the app.

Best regards,
David

The "Home" option is now available, but there's still no repainting happening. When I click on the "Home" option, what is supposed to happen. It doesn't seem to do anything...

Hello Dom,

The "Home" option should redirect you to your default start page in Todoist (if you haven't changed it, that would be "today, overdue").

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this issue you describe on Windows 8, 64-bit. Please tell me - do you have any anti-virus applications, firewalls, use proxy servers or any other apps that may influence the connectivity of our app?

Best regards,
David

Hmm. Strange. I have Microsoft Security Essentials running and the OOTB firewall with no special changes. I recently updated my graphics driver for the Intel 4000 chipset.

Dom,

Please tell me, does disabling the MS Security Essentials solve this issue or does it persist even with this software switched off?

David

Turns out I just have Windows Defender. I turned that off and added an explicit exception to the firewall to no avail. I've found that I get similar functionality through the Chrome add on so I'll use that for the time being in lieu of maybe a Windows 8 Metro app?

Dom,

We're planning to release a native Windows 8 app in the future :)

For now, you're welcome to use the Chrome extension as it even has more features that the Windows app - it allows you to add emails as tasks as shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfslbgUv4F4&list=PL2EEC42CE38B0AF8E&index=19

Note - you can click on the arrow icon in the bottom-right corner of the Chrome extension and it will open a new window just with Todoist in it so you can use it independently of the browser.

Best regards,
David

Happily, the latest version that has just updated on my computer has fixed the refresh issue so I don't need to have chrome open just to view my tasks. Good work!
