Chrome/Gmail Feature Problem

U

I upgraded to Premium today, however when I have a Gmail message open and click on the Todoist button in my browser, there is no option there to add the email as a task like the video says there should be. I rebooted after upgrading thinking that might make it come available but still nothing. Any advice?

Hello Larry,

This option is a free feature and should be visible in two places:

1. When you click on the + icon in the top-right corner to open the "Quick Add" box.

2. At the bottom of the task list within a project (click "Show project" and choose one).

Please note that this feature doesn't work with the Google Labs "Preview Pane" extension. Please make sure it's switched off and that other browser or GMail plugins aren't interfering with the URL of the message (which includes its unique ID).

Best regards,
David

The preview pane is one of the MOST useful labs. It hurt to turn this off. I now have to weigh up whether to dumb down gmail for the sake of todoist. But the add email as a task is equally important. If you could find a solution to this... it would be the complete package.

Hello Damon,

We're very sorry for the inconvenience, but it seems to be out of our control. For the "Add email as task" feature to work, we must see the ID of the message in the URL and for some reason, the creators of the Preview Pane add-on have disabled this option and the URL doesn't point to the particular message making it impossible for our plugin to tell whether you're reading a message or not and if - which one it is.

Please note that aside from adding emails as tasks through the plugin, you could also forward them directly to your Todoist projects (this would even make them accessible from anywhere as the entire message would become a task note). Please refer to this post on our blog: http://todoist.com/blog/2013/01/zero-inbox-policy-with-todoist/ to read about the advantages of both options.

Best regards,
David

Understand all too well the importance of a ID's. Its strange that its disabled.

I thought about sending it as an email too. Its not as convenient (and after all todist is about convenience) but I'll give it a go.

Thanks for the fast response.

Just a thought ......

I to am a big fan of Gmail preview pain. However, I'm an even bigger fan of creating a task from an email in Todist. The compromise I found is to use the Gmail Lab called "Message Sneak Peek". It allows you to right click on an email and get a pop-up window with the email. While it's not quite as good as the preview pane, it does allow you to create tasks in Todist from email messages. Hope this helps.

I used to use the sneak peak before I used the preview pane. It would be a step backwards.

Good thought though...

Ouch. I like the preview panes too. This may be a deal breaker for Todoist.
