Windows app will not load up in offline mode

U

When i am offline the windows app will not load up, where as when i try to start the browser plugin app, a warning message comes up saying 'Could not sync with Todoist. Will go into offline mode and try to sync again later.'
As i am away from the internet for extended times, i still need to have access to my lists on the computer.

Hopefully this can be fixed.

Regards,
Steve.

Hello Steve,

Please tell me - are you logged into the Windows app?

The Windows app uses its own settings and caching. We will look into it and try to improve its offline functionality, but for now we advise to use the browser version. If you go to the direct app URL: https://todoist.com/app?v=84 through an HTML5 compatible browser (all modern browsers should do - Chrome, Firefox), you can access it offline. Also, our mobile apps (for Android and iOS) don't require an internet connection either, feel free to try them out.

Best regards,
David

Hello Tomer,

Our Windows app requires an internet connection as you open it, you can then continue to use it in offline mode.

Could you make the app work truly offline, where it caches a local copy on your machine (like Dropbox)? That would be awesome.

Hello Bo,

For now, we're utilizing the HTML5 technology across all our platforms. Technically, it allows offline work and caches all your data, but it requires being connected when you launch it. We'll look into enabling full offline access in the future.

David

Are you saying that all that advertising about "staying in sync" with no internet connection, is false and should read "stay in sync IF you have an internet connection when you first switch on your pc"??? OR is it something specific to IE9 etc

Given the adveritsing shows a plane, I think it's unacceptable to suggest we have to login first!

Hello Ian,

You can access our app without any internet connection anywhere through our mobile apps. You also don't need an internet connection to access our web-app at https://todoist.com/app?v=94 as it completely loads to your browser and it will be read from the browser's cache if you're not connected.

Only our Windows and Mac apps require a connection first and then allow you to continue to use them if you disconnect. We will try to address this issue in future updates, but for now if you're offline please try to use our mobile apps, our full web-app or don't log out of the desktop apps.

Best regards,
David

I'm on IE9 and when I do not have an internet connection, it will not load? If you're saying it should (in IE9) are there any special stepsor routines to undertake...I've seen quite a few other posts mentioning this issue?

Ian,

To access Todoist offline through a browser, you must use this URL: https://todoist.com/app?v=94 and the browser must fully support offline storage. Most modern browser's do, it should work best on Chrome also on Firefox and most likely on IE 10. It is possible that IE9 may not fully support accessing an offline stored website directly without an internet connection (but you should be able to use it if you disconnect while being on the site).

That is why I raised the issue...I need access to todoist without being connected immediately beforehand!

OK, just to be clear...

I am using that link and I DO NOT have an internet connection before I board the plane, I am using IE9.

Are you saying I must upgrade to IE10 or another browser or is there something that needs to be configured.

Sorry, but there seems to be no clear instruction that truly enables remote working, offline, except on androird/IOS...not really what you advertise??

Ian,

We're sorry for the lack of detailed instructions, we're working on a new help page which will clarify how to use Todoist offline exactly.

For now, yes, we recommend to use Chrome for full offline accessibility - this browser works best with any HTML5 offline storage-compatible web-app.

To clarify - when you install Chrome, you have to access Todoist online one time so that the entire app and your tasks will be stored in the cache for the first time and then, after that, you don't need to be online to access the app through this browser, but we recommend not to use the Logout option so that a cookie will be stored keeping you logged in for a long time (months).

Alternatively, you could try to access Todoist through our mobile interface at http://todoist.com/m - it offers only basic functionality, but it is an even more optimized version for offline use and it may work even with IE.

Best regards,
David

Thanks for the help and in return, for the avoidance of doubt...

IE9 and IE10 do not work on ANY of the web based links...they simply report an inability to connect.

Unfortunetaly, therefore, you must have an internet connection, open the web page and then disconnect without closing IE down!!

Presumably IE issue, but I think the website should make it clear that Chrome or Firefox is needed to avoid wasted time trying to use IE.

Thanks again.
