Synchronisation is not working with google calendar

B

Hi,

i have a issue with todoist and my google calendar.

My tasks are appearing in my calendar but it takes almost 5 or 6

hours until new created tasks are upcoming in the calendar.

Some tasks were never shown until know, though they were created

yesterday (+12 hours ago)

The synchronisation have to be trusthworthy otherwise it makes no sense for my.

Are you able to offer me a solution for this?

Regards
Boris

Hello Boris,

The iCal feed we're providing is always updated live and if you use it with any other calendar software, it will update instantly. Unfortunately, Google is syncing their iCal feeds only once a day. We're sorry for this inconvenience, but there is nothing we can do about it at this time as this is a setting on Google's servers and we also hope that they will change this in the future and refresh their feeds more often.

For now, you could try to use any other calendar software such as Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCalendar etc.

Best regards,
David

Hi David,

thank you for the fast reply.

ok, now i have to say : I a little bit confused about that...

I have used Gquerys before i fond with Todoist, and Gquerys was

able to refresh my google calender instantly.

If i really have to use Microsoft Outlook instead of the native web

application, from my point of view

the biggest advantage of a webapplication (mobility &

portability... )will be gone then... :-(

Boris

Boris,

Please tell me - does the other software also use an iCal feed? We are looking into other options specifically for the Google Calendar, but unfortunately for now it's the only standard we use to export tasks to a calendar.

Also, we're working on implementing our own calendar view within Todoist.

David

Hi David,

no i don't think these people are using iCal feed.
You don't have to link a external calendar in your google mail to get this working .
You only have to authorize the application to login w/ google
and that's it.

Would be great if you find a better way to realize these sync too, cause i love the "simplicity of todoist" and if you really will be able to add this feature i think you will make many many people very happy ;=)

Boris

I was going to start a new topic, but I'll continue this one.

It seems like GQueues integrates tightly with Google Apps. To that end, I imagine they are harnessing the API to directly insert events into a google calendar.

The lack of timely integration with google calendar and todoist is a tough one for me. I use my calendar constantly, and I need the calendar to constantly reflect the current state of my tasks. The best solution will be one that modifies the google calendar as soon as a task is added, modified, or deleted. To do that, the app will need to access the calendar.

I checked out ifttt.com and zapier.com, since they have other integrations with google calendar that can add an event. But neither had any scripts that had been written to take advantage of the todoist API.

It seems like this should be doable.

Hello,

Thank you for this information, we are planning to introduce a closer Google Apps integration in the future to avoid these issues. We've already implemented the first step - Google Single Sign-On and we will certainly consider a closer integration with Google Calendar without relying on the iCal feed.

David

"Also, we're working on implementing our own calendar view within Todoist."

I came to this support forum to request this exact feature. I am so glad you are working on it! I am going to stop using Google Calendar altogether as I store all tasks and appointments now in Todoist and love it.

+1 for this. I've tried every solution out there, as my daily commute is 3 hours, and I've got two computers, a laptop, iphone, and ipad all that need syncing. I am really loving todoist, but the one drawback (and it's pretty major for me) is a lack of ability to see events AND tasks on the same page. My daily events obviously influence when I'm going to schedule my tasks, and I hate having to open two apps (or two tabs on my browser) to figure it out.

In the calendar, the two essentials would be (1) having multiple calendars or tags or something like Google Calendar does, so that I can differentiate from my work appointments and my kids' practices, and (2) the ability to share the calendar with others (or at least share an appointment with them). Those two features are the only thing keeping me on Google Calendar, because I HATE the interface.

OH - and it was even worse with GQueues. Whoever thought taking the ugly, cluttered Google Calendar and adding a whole bunch of all-day events was a good idea clearly did not care at all for asthetics.

Hi David
When might these calendar fixes and/or your own calendar view be coming out? A vote needed?
Thanks - I love this app!

Hello Marylee,

Unfortunately, the delayed sync in Google (once a day) is an issue on Google's side as that's how often they refresh all iCal feeds by default. We're looking into alternative solutions to work around this problem, but we can't give you any timeframe on it.

We also can't give you any specific release date on our own calendar view, but it's currently in development and it shouldn't take too long before it's ready for publishing.

Best regards,
David

I just joined Todoist to move away from Google tasks whole looking for this exact feature - one page calendar/task integration. While this post is ostensibly to say "me too," I would also like to ask if a project can have its own iCal feed so I can turn on/off projects, eg "personal." Apologies if this is obvious. I am still learning.

Thanks
